I have decided to take the Vanstrom Performance shop car to the next level and enter the ever growing ranks of X-275. The class is crazy and involves heads up, 1/8th mile racing on 275/60/15 drag radials.
In order to make the car compete I will need to put around 1,100 RWHP down on them drag radials with only 9" of tread!! The bump spot for an 8 car field is around a 5.20 in the 1/8th. Some guys are even running in the high 4's.
There is a thread in the member projects section on the engine http://www.newyorkmustangs.com/forums/time-to-start-building-my-engine-2011-a-t18340.html so I guess I will post chassis updates on here. For starters, even though I have to add weight to the car I need to get as much off the front as possible and get it to the rear. The most likely spot to start with was the brakes. The car had SN-95 spindles, rotors and calipers and weighed in at a whopping 88 lbs. I found a mint used set of Aerospace street/strip front brakes to not only shave weight but help to slow my heavy ass down!!
Here are some pics of modifying a stock pair of '87-'93 spindles for Aerospace brakes. This operation took a whopping 44 lbs off the front of the car.
