2012 Mustang Rally Finger Lakes

Insurance for the show is covered under the Business Development and Tourism Council.
Why keep the show in Phelps??? The Parade!!! Are alomst 10,000 people going to see just the Rally? Probably not! But people do like to see the cars roll up through town.
I'm a rep for Friendly Ford and don't know what your talking about in 2011. Some people were asked to kindly move. So we could get the cars out of the grass area.
I know the former owner of Z Axis. He was contacted to see if the current ownership would be willing to let us set up an autocross for the show. They declined.
Vendor and Sponsor's we charge 25.00 for a space. This year some of them did have some success. Internet Vendors? We have reached out to as many as we could. American Muscle, Summit and Jegs donated last year. Goody Bag stuff. We used some of it again this year what was left.
Local Radio Stations and News Papers? We have been in contact with them. The Finger Lakes Times ran something for us last year. We didn't have any luck this year. The D&C, Times and Messenger were all contacted.
Charities involed? Habitat for Humanity sets up a booth and one of they're reps sits on our committee. They usually help with a couple volunteers.
Judging would anyone from NY Mustangs be willin to step up now and stick to it for next year? We are suppose to have 1 already lined up for next year.
Dirt Races? Did you attend the Rally the first year? We had the mini sprints display at the show. I reached out to Black Rock, Canandaigua, Paradise Speedway for sponsorships and donations. Most everyone gave something.
The show is alot of work and money. The trophies cost about 500 every year. If the sponsor's are advertised on the back of the T shirt... They gave some sort of donation over $150.00.
The show raised $1500.00 for both charities. Our expenses this year were a lot higher. But it was worth it, because if people don't now. They will in years to come realize how special it was to have Molly come to Upstate NY.
NY Mustangs were on the billboard because the Mayor supports the show. He is one of the owners of Phelps Mercantile who pays for the billboard. We are working hard to work with other organizations in town already.
As of now the price for the show will most certainly be dropped to try and draw more people. The parade is the draw for Phelps. But it is also an outlet for everything else in the Finger Lakes.
Watkins Glen is pretty cool. That is part of this show. We hope to expand on this element of this event. Time and support will allow this.
Last but not least. If you live in Phelps why are you not helping on the committee? It takes alot of work to put something like this on. Its not easy. We could use all the support we can get! Hope I didn't miss anything.

I think poney power also brought up some good points. I wasn't there for the first car show at the SK festival, but what was the idea behind bringing in a car show? To get more people to come to Phelps, or as an added event? Moving the show to a bigger place, like Geneva, really sounds like a good idea to make a bigger showing of cars. Would there be anyway to move it to somewhere like Geneva, then do a cruise to Phelps for the parade? That way we could still do a parade, and possibly get more cars.
The judging of the cars should be different also, I touched that point some with a previous post, and splitting the cars up more between modified and mostly stock sound like a good idea, but then again, more cars would be needed. I really like the trophies of a piston and rod though.
I wouldn't mine being a judge, my car most likely won't be show worthy next year.

Also, for next year, if we are going out on Wednesday and leaving Sunday, instead of paying for hotel rooms, why dont we look into renting a house on the lake? Get a house for like 6-8 people, would cost about $2000 and split it up, thats only $250-$300 per person and we have our own place on the water to do whatever
Its a good idea but I think I'd prefer to stick with the Ramada. I like the location, atmosphere and I'm on vacation..I don't want to be doing dishes, making my bed, etc..Also for what I'm looking into for the boat tour, being at the Ramada would be a good thing.

Was in contact with Watkins Glen today. Waiting to see if the Porsche club is renewing the date again. But we could possibly do a track rental from 6-8. The cost as of now is $1900 an hour. We will most certainly need some major support if people really want to see this happen!! More info to follow.
Wow, didn't realize it cost that much for an hour. Two hours should be more than enough time.
There were 50 cars there? That's pretty good, better than last year. 76 each still isn't that bad if we are able to get 50 cars again. I could pitch in another 25 so you wouldn't have to do 50. 5 to 7 also sounds good to me.

Just want to pass on some comments from someone I was talking to a Metro Ford yesterday. They have been to the Rally 3 times now and said this was the best yet. They thought the Poker Run was really planned out perfectly this time. It was their anniversary on Friday at Watkins and it meant a lot to them to meet the President and get pics. They will be coming back for sure. They took tons of pics and video and going to present it at one of the local Mustang Club meetings and try to get them on board for next year. Dan and the committee, you guys are doing an awesome job! It doesn't matter if its only 100 cars, its a great time and thats what everyone remembers. 
I like the ideas for the track. Maybe having it later is a good thing since people may have to work, gives them time to get out there. I have no problem paying $75 - $100. It'll be well worth it. I don't think they will give it to us at 5pm because I think they like to keep the Thunder Road open but maybe we can work something out with them.

This is for the peeps that wanted to make a vacation out of this next year. I'm going back out to the Finger Lakes next week and want to do some "research" for us. I have a few ideas floating around. I'm thinking of staying down in Watkins Glen Wed. and Thurs. They seem to have better boat rides available not to mention being closer to the track for Friday. After the track, we could head up to the Ramada. I found a gorgeous place on the lake, it is a bit more than the Ramada about $235 per night, really think it'd be worth it though.
