Differential covers leak, crack and break (never heard of one bending) from too much flex in the IRS. The root of the problem may be bad bushing(s). This would lead to wheel hop that is worse than typical, putting even more stress and flexing on the rear resulting the leaking cover issue...

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but take a torque wrench to all of the bolts, especially now that you know someone else pulled some of them to install the brace.

Not as common, but sure. Clean off all stains with break fluid and see if you can figure out where it leaks. Either way check the cover bolts with a torque wrench. The reason they leak and sometimes crack is due to flex, particularly from a hard launch, which is why the brace is important...

Does it really matter? I would just re-torque the bolts, if it holds, great. If not, then you need to pull it and replace the gasket. I did a search on other forums and it seems it may be the same gasket as for an 8.8. Also some use gray/black RTV

That would make sense. However, I wonder if the regi for the gold plates is different than a renewal regi for the blue plates, which you could have done instead.:idk:

They were fugly when they came out and they are fugly now. I will keep my blue and white plates until they come and break the rusty bolts that hold them on! :violent:

No guarantee, I have heard of it happening, but it is far less likely. Well worth the $150-175 cost :idk: But, do you really want to find out?

Very common. Almost sure it holds 2.9 pints. Under stress the covers are also known to crack and break. As long as you are pulling the bolts I would install an IRS brace (mine is Billet Flow) or an aftermarket cover. You may want to send modularmustang a PM, he is just finishing a...

Watch that wheel bearing. The nut is NOT meant to be reused. If there is damage to the hub you are looking at a couple of hundred for a new one and it is only sold by Ford.
