means you can use it on your car, tuners work on the principal of storing your cars factory tune which is identified by its VIN, So once the tuner downloads your stock tune and erases your computer you install a new tune weather it be a custom or preloaded tune. When that is done the tuner is locked to the car that you did it too.

So basically once it downloads my stock tune I can have it retuned as many times as I want but it won't work on any other cars after mine?

Sorry for all the questions here.... whats the difference with the sf3 and the x3? i know the x3 is for custom tunes. the sf3 is preloaded with tunes but im mainly looking to be able to change the gear ratio and add the intake into the tune. Which one of them is better for me? they are both the same price new so why would you want the sf3 over the x3? thanks guys.

They are one in the same. Most people call it an X3, but the proper name for the tuner is the SF3.
