Wont go into Reverse my Tremec T5 "Sometimes"

Okay fellas I recently purchase a 2000 GT with a tremec T5 and a BBK short throw shifter. Lately I'm having a difficult time when going into reverse. It works 98% of the time but on occasion it grinds and doesnt go in. I would have to turn the car off turn it on in reverse as a good buddy directed me to do and works perfect. Please don't tell me the tranny needs a rebuild I'm dreading those words but I wanted to hear opinions. I'm leaning to what my buddy is telling me slap a new Tremec in there but I wanted to surf the net and see if anyone else has had this had to their stangs. I appreciate your insight fellas

When this happens, did you try and put it into 1st, then into reverse? sometimes the syncros are a little astray and need this forward action first.

I have had to do this on my 07 from time to time, specially when the tranny is cold.

Does it feel like your flywheel is still in rotation when you try to go in reverse ? This is what I feel and I have to wait a short second and then slap it in gear and easy into it or it will pop out. But if I turn it off and place it in reverse and trun it on it's fine every other gear is perfect and clutch grabs amazing it's just Reverse that is playing games with me. People look at me like I dont know how to drive stick because of the grinding when I try to go in reverse.

Sounds like a normal thing. Try what I said. It is what I did back in the mid 80's and with the older cars.

If the flywheel still fell like it is turning, then maybe your TOB (throw out bearing) is on its way out.

without hearing it or feeling what is happening, it is hard to diagnose.

Try the simple and free methods first before diving int the tranny.

Yes, what's happening to you happens to all of us, my car would not go into reverse without going to first, I'm used to it, i just slide it to first real quick then reverse, if I don't do that it would grind, it frustrated me when I first got my car but it's normal.

Okay thanks I will try that tomorrow when I take her out. Throw out bearing my bud had told me to it might be the clutch but the clutch grabs fine and the throw out bearing is not screaming.

I have a T45 in my 2000 GT and it does the same shyt but like they said i put it in first then reverse all good

i have the same recommendation as everyone else.

I always put mine into first (or 3rd, I dont remember) before putting into reverse.

just pop it into 5th then reverse its a quick up nand down motion and itll work without you havin to bring it all the way over to first then back
