Whining near rear end

Just sold my 96 gt and bought a 94.Just picked up the 94 and notice a whining coming from the rear portion of the car.It does it while the car is in neutral and not moving and appears to get a little louder while applying some gas.Any ideas?

It makes a whining sound from the rear while in neutral and gets louder when you give it gas? That's an interesting issue you have on your hands. You got me. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

The best guess I could come up with is your fuel pump. Turn the key to the on position with the engine off and see if you hear the noise. If you do that would be what you are looking at I would think. Hop out of the car and trace the sound.

That's what came to my mind first but I've never heard a fuel pump whine, although I did just find this video. OP, does this sound similar to what you're hearing?

It doesn't sound like its coming from the speakers does it? Sometimes the spark plug wires can cause a noise like a whine from the speaker and gets louder when you rev it higher.

I am leaning towards the fuel pump.I had an brief time this morning where it would not idle.The situation cleared up on its own, performance and acceleration seems OK.It is not coming through the speakers....Appreciate all the help...Thanks

If you are doing a new fuel pump you might as well put in a bigger one while you're at it. Don't know what mods you have in mind but the stock fuel pump won't be enough for some mods like h/c/i or with boost.

Had a bunch of running around to do.Had my 16 year old boy with me(practicing his stick game). Ran great all day,idle was good,went about 60 miles.Tonght it would not idle...by the time we got home all was fine.Doing a little on line research and it sounds like the pump might be the problem.Going to change the fuel filter first,but it sounds like the pump.Any ideas about what to go with for a pump and where to buy?It is all stock except for a cold air.Anyone with some used 94 gt performance parts...let me know.Doing a kind of father son (do it yourself project).Thanks For All The Help

It could be the fuel pump or possibly the fuel pressure regulator. If you could check what you are getting fuel pressure at idle it might help point you in the right direction. I had the same sort of problem with my truck, 2.3t swap, been fixing problems on it ever since I bought the thing, lol. Anyhow, sometimes it would drive fine and then it would act like its missing and when it idled at times it sounded like it had a big cam. Checked the fuel pressure and it was fine, and changed the regulator and it drives so much better now. You could check the codes on it before replacing anything though and see what you get.

You can check out 50resto.com for fuel pumps, they have quite a few different ones. Most of the fuel pumps run around the same price from the smaller ones to the big ones. I bought a 255 lph pump because I have some big plans for it and don't want to buy a fuel pump twice.

Sounds like I will try it.I regards to the fuel pump,if I have to buy one I think I will go with the 255...Thanks For The Help...I will take all the advice I can get
