lol don't think anyone else needed a smiley to tell...
lol seems "don't think" are the operative words here...
I was comparing 87 w tune to 93 w/o tune. No matter how you cut it it's a lot cheaper to run 87 with a tune as opposed to 93 w/o.
Again $275 for a tune (even less if you sell it for when you're done w it) blows away even a LOW estimate of $520 (which will go up the longer you drive/keep the car over 50k mi)
A tune will give you better performance. It's not just horsepower, the throttle response alone is worth it, beside the hp, shifting and other parameters it improves.
As far as thousands, 3 of my last 4 Mustangs had over 150k miles when I sold them.. so I would've spent almost $5,000 extra on premium fuel
edit:
also.. insane may not have been an appropriate word. didn’t mean anything by it, should’ve said something like wasteful or inefficient. if you're happy with the difference that's all that matters..
In my original post, I was comparing not making any physical changes to my car and instead putting in an extra 25 cents a day to get +10hp. No matter how you cut it, that's an incredible deal for no mechanical mods. Again, I need to point out that the $520 was for
4 YEARS at 25 cents difference in gas. But guess what, I was at the pumps today and the diff between Reg and Prem is only
20 cents. So 4 years of Prem is only an extra
$83 year/$333 for 4 years. An even better deal than I originally thought!
As far as better shifting from a tune, I had the Hypertech tuner but specifically left shift firmness/rpm limit/rpm shift points stock. I like my car to shift smoothly, not as if the trans was in need of repair.
As far as thousands, I've been lucky enough to have owned 4 new cars over the last 7 years. Every car had about 7-9k on it when I traded it in, so to me (and I'm sure to a lot of other people as well) "thousands" doesn't apply.
Finally, I appreciate your admitting that "insane" was much too strong a word to use for this discussion. It takes a man to admit as much. In return, I would like to admit to ... ahh ... umm ...
NOTHING!
I'll let you get the last word in, as I've said all that I wanted to say.
PEACE BRO, AND STAY SAFE.
