v6 to v8 swap

I was looking into getting a 2000 v6 and then swapping in a 4.6 so that I could save on insurance.

Yeas I know it would be easier to just get a v8, but i want to do the swap anyway, cause it will give me something to do.

My question here is do I really need to change the whole dash harness. Makes no sense to me.

I figured I would need a motor, tranny, driveshaft, rear end, and computer. No need for a whole dash.

If I can get a v8 donor car, that would make life so much easier I would figure.

ECU, harness, gauge cluster, and probably more. I have never done it but alot of guys have taken V6 cars and swapped in 4.6 SOHC/DOHC motors.

lets see what i can remember

-engine
-tranny(if a stick)
-rearend
-springs
-radiator
-gauge cluster
-dash harness
-brake system(have to convert to hyrdaboost)
-ecu

missing some, give me a break, its early.

basically, a lot. unless you get a damn good deal, the swap really isnt worth it. If you just want something to do, you could blow the 6 and surpass what the swapped engine would be putting down(you never specified, so Im assuming its a basic 2v setup). unless you plan on a 4v, which drives up cost a fair bit

you wouldnt be able to inspect it,,ud have to sham a sticker,,,,u should just probly buy a v8,its easier and the time and money u could save by just buyin the v8 you could hook it up a bit,,,,never hook up a v6,might as well buy a honda,lol

If you dont have anything constructive to say, dont bother at all.

Im sure ford never wanted the essex V6's to get power, thats why they designed the block and crank to take at least 900hp from the factory. I say at least because thats where we are at now, and still have yet to break one from too much power. :rolleyes: And dont let the GN guys here you say that...

He has a point though. Nothing wrong with the OP's idea, but he just brought up a good point.
Or the OP can TT the v6 :awesomework:
It'd be a nice sleeper

Thanks guys for the help, I was thinking of building a bad ass v6 but who knows, still up in the air right now. Might drop 5k into a twin turbo set up for the 6, that would be a great sleeper.

something to think about- theres a lot of good setups right now. And Andy at TMA is making kits again, top notch parts from him. with the splitports, theres a lot of options- vortech, procharger, Eaton, Turbo, nitrous. all but the nitrous could be had for only a little more then the cost of swapping in a low-mile PI engine, with a more power

This is interesting, since the new 5.0 I been thinking how cool it be to drop it into my Pony Pkg car. A crate 5.0 seems well priced around $5k plus extra few thousand for the needed parts is a bargain compared to buying a whole new car. As for the inspection that doesn't seem like an obsticle as the point of the OBD II system is the verify the sensors are correctly working and the levels being reported aren't excessive.

Well it may seem like a bargin, you're overlooking the addition of supporting suspension, chassis, and brake set ups that come on the new 5.0s.

The 5.0 is around 430lbs If believe, close to the same as a 4.6 DOHC aluminum block motor. It would definitely be a nice potential swap once more parts are available like headers and what not. The tough thing right now is the power steering setup but I am guessing the hydro boost would work?

There is already a running/driving 5.0 Coyote powered foxbody done!

Inspection would be a problem if your trying to pass it off as a v6 for insurance. I'm pretty sure any reputable place will identify a v8. you could supercharge it and not tell your insurance. less work too.

seriously dude do't mod a v6? y would you say that they are very capable cars and you save a lot on insurance too and a rice honda will never ever ever be compared to a v6 with a blower/TT no offense or anything but my baby is a v6
