Will underdrives cause your battery to not charge?I have UPR on there now.My car always had a low battery charge according to the stock guage around 3/8ths most of the time.When I put the lights on and stop at a light the meter aways dropped to around 1/4 sometimes 1/8.I recently put underdrives on and about 2 weeks later my battery drops so low and the blinker takes forever to blink and the meter is near red!!I want to change the battery out,but I dont want to change the pullies again(too much work).Do you think the alternator isnt up to par considering even before I put the underdrives on the battery really never hit the half way mark on the battery guage?Any ideas?I checked the grounds already.

go with a 220 alternator and you wont have to worry about the power draw. underdrive pullies are hell on your electrical system, as well as your cooling system. make sure you keep an eye on the temp as well. how old is the battery? you may need a new one as well. and consider a capacitor especially with a 1200 watt amp. look into an optima yellow top, a 2 farad capacitor and a 220 amp alternator.

great,i have seen alot of people with the 220 so it makes sense.I will get a new battery cause its like 6 years old then Ill get the alternator.any idea on how much those alternators cost?

The gains are minimal (no noticeable seat of the pants gains for sure)......definitely not worth the headaches if someone's running a stock alternator. I still have a stock alternator, have underdrive pulleys, but put stock alternator pulley back on.

is this a limited to the 5.0 cars? just wondering cuse i had pullies on mine for over 140 thousand miles with no issues at all.. but i stumbled across the thred so wanted to inquire about it.. if it helps i have steeda underdrive pullies with the real solid pully not the piggyback

My wires going into the top of the alternator were smoked.I bought a little crimp on harness and cut the old one off,crimped the new one on and heat shrinked the new connections,plus my battery was old so I got a new one.All is good for now.I am glad a guy at advanced auto pointed out the crappy wire clip at the top of the alternator,it was bad enough were it wasnt reading anything on the tester they had.All better now.But I still might put the old pully back on.Is it ok to leave the other underdrives on and just change the alternator one back to stock????

Ive run pullies(March Perf) on my car for shit..7yrs now with NO problems whatsoever on the stock alt. Ive replaced it with a new stock one a few years back, but thats about it. Also look into getting a decent battery, I have an Optima redtop mounted in the trunk.

The 1st mods I ever did to the car were BBK intake and March pullies, definately noticed a difference, was HUGE, but you could tell extra power was on tap..
