is now available. Nice to see the 2V getting some love
If you want to rev up your Two-Valve Mustang, Summit Racing offers complete Trick Flow top-end kits to do the job. Check out the official words after the jump...
Ford's 4.6L 2-Valve V8 is a solid performance engine—with the right combination of parts, that Fis. If you have a stock 4.6L short-block and free weekend, you can install a Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Top-End Engine kit and be rewarded with up to 390 horsepower and 375 ft.-lbs. of torque.
That's not smoke and mirrors, either. Trick Flow dynoed a kit on a Romeo PI short block with a stock PI intake manifold, Trick Flow upper plenum, and a 75mm throttle body and got those exact results.
What's in the Box Here's what Trick Flow includes in the Top-End Engine Kit:
Twisted Edge 185 Cylinder Heads The only clean-sheet aftermarket cylinder heads available for the 4.6L 2-Valve, the Twisted Wedge cylinder heads have Fast as Cast™ 185cc intake ports with PI-style port entries. The CNC-profiled and bowl-blended combustion chambers have intake valves relocated to the opposite side of the camshaft (that's the "twisted" part). The result is more mid-lift airflow, more room for large valves, and increased piston-to-valve and valve-to-bore clearance so you can run higher-lift cams).
The Twisted Wedge 185 heads come fully assembled with 90 lb. beehive valve springs (good to .600" valve lift), stainless steel valves, replaceable 4-bolt cam bearing journals, chromemoly spring retainers, and die-forged valve locks.
Track Max Camshaft Set These hydraulic roller cams are speced at 228°/230° duration @.050 and .550" lift with 112° of lobe separation. They provide a strong midrange powerband (1,500-5,000 rpm) and a decent lope at idle. Matching followers are included.
Installation Components Since you'll need them, Trick Flow included brand new timing chains, lash adjusters, head bolts and 12mm cam bolts, an intake manifold and head gasket set, and a handy valve spring compressor tool.
AT A GLANCE The What: Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Top End Engine Kits for Ford 4.6L 2-Valve
Why They're Cool: Take one stock 4.6L 2-Valve short block, add one Twisted Wedge Top-End Engine Kit, and you're looking at 380 to 390 dyno-proven horsepower. That's pretty stout for a stock-block 2-Valver, and it makes a good foundation for other bolt-ons like Trick Flow's Track Head EFI intake manifold. The kit comes with Trick Flow's innovative Twisted Wedge 185 heads, a cam kit, and installation hardware.
Part Numbers: TFS-K519-380-375 (heads w/44cc combustion chambers, 380 HP); TFS-K519-390-375 (heads w/38cc combustion chambers, 390 HP)
How to Get Them: Order online at SummitRacing.com, or by phone at 1-800-230-3030
Other Stuff Worth Knowing: Never taken a 4.6L modular apart before? Relax—Trick Flow has a great how-to DVD (produced by HorsepowerTV) that will show you how to swap heads and camshafts, degree cams, and more. Its part number is TFS-DVD-1, also available at Summit Racing.
