Tranny Question!!

Um how hard is it to rebuild an automatic transmission off a 98 GT? (its at 150k miles) I'll have the help of someone who has rebuilt engines before... And I'm looking to put money under the hood so i really dont want to pay Xthousand dollars to have it done. Any advice or opinions?

I think you have the AODE you might want to check and then we can go from there. What are you looking for? power? stock?

ha. power would be nice but im under the impression that power is expensive. plus i wont get near the power from my auto tranny as anyone with a manual. so stock, unless i can get power cheap...

My grandfather owns an automatic transmission shop run by my uncles. I worked for him for a couple of years. I have seen countless transmissions rebuilt. I wouldn't tackle it myself. My.

You might not get the power at the wheels but with a big stall and the same engine you will be faster. Most built auto cars run quicker times but have lower mphs.

A manual tranny is faster but you have to power shift it in the RPM power band, some cars around 5500 rpm. A regular 4 of 5 speed tranny cant handle it.You are better off getting your auto tranny beefed up(since you have a hook). First check out the price on a semi high manual tranny first to get an idea on price.It might be cheaper to redo your tranny.Take care and good luck.What's the name of the shop post it here maybe he can help out some members.

You can make that transmission pretty durable! I think a PI Stallion converter (2500)and some 4.10's will wake it up!
