hmm,i dnt think of that really,,thinner oil lubs better tho,u think maby clearences are just a bit to big,,,i do use the lucas oil additive stuff thats very thick,i am comin up on a n oil change soon so maby ill go a little thinker,,its under ice right now and i dont want to rip the cover,so ill be getting back to this when i can get my cover off
Its maybe like u said gingerbreadman, u might have to invest in a motor that doesn't have as many miles as this one has. It seems to be giving u nothing but problems.
+2 on the rebuild. As long as the piston walls aren't tore up too bad, you can get away with a .030 bore and hone. You have a good mill on your hands. The 86 HO is a heavy walled roller block with "squared bores". Nice stout engine... That being said, the tick may be a lifter tick, or a exhaust leak. I run open headers and I usually have to retorque the header bolts. It sounds just like a lifter tick. Make sure you don't tear down a perfectly good engine because of a exhaust leak.
i know thw bottem end is fine,but if i got to rebuild it theres no way i would reuse the same internals,i wouldnt wste the time on old parts when a stroker kit is 900 bucks,plus it sees high rpms alot so it would be more of a safty net for me knowing its all good parts rather then taking a chance,when the snow stops im gonna try these other gaskets first,ill start with redoin the headers, and see....but i used the copper cause the ones i got looked like crap,could i use the copper spray on the felt gaskets to make it nice a tacky? it was rebuilt at 65k from the owner before me
a chinese eagle stroker kit might need 900 bucks but you will prob spend close to another 900 on machine work. a stock rotator is stronger than the block itself which probably wont live long if you rev the shit out of it.

well ive been a mechanic for 8 years and i have rebuilt engines,i think im qualified,the cars under snow and ive been lazzy,i was more or less wonderin if anyone else had sorta the same noise that could just throw some suggestions out,i dont know why u guys have to be pricks about it and point out nonsence
I don't think that is what was intended. The stock rods/crank/pistons are quite capable of taking abuse. The only weak link worth replacing might be the rod bolts if you are really screaming the car. But I have owned a pile of these cars and worked even more and keeping the revs 6k or under and the bottom end will be fine for along time.
The best thing might be just to use either red high temp or copper high temp RTV instead of gaskets. I usually use the Fel Pro graphite gaskets, I am trying the copper gaskets with my new headers.
These work decent too, the FRPP ones.

from what you type you dont sound qualified to me....i would think if your a mechanic with 8 yrs under your belt you would be able to diagnose a tapping sound or differentiate the sound of a leaking header from valvetrain noise.
also i would think you would know how to adjust/tighten rockers...being a mechanic for 8 years and all...

well ive worked on a ton of different cars and makes sry i cant remember everythin about everything,this is my first 5.0.i can diagnose it,just havent looked at it yet,im not a genious,im an average person with average skills,how many years have u been a mechanic? ,again just looking for suggestions and if someone thinks i should do somthing a certain way i want to hear them out cause there always more then one way to do things,i know theres alot of knowledge on this site and i like to get peoples opinions on things and the way that they would go about it,im a good tech but im not the best,everything i did on my car i did myself and im proud of it,,,do u guys just like to argue or somthing,y am i getting this crap from u 2? u guys cant just reply with somthin usful or just not reply, i dont get it
