Last time I drag raced was sometime around 1984, and I had a 65 with a 289, 4spd, and things were simpler then.
Now, everything is computerized and has a sensor for anything and everything imaginable.
I will probably have a million questions by race day, but the first one that has been haunting me is heating up some drag radials in the burnout box.
Last car I had had 4 wheel drum brakes, no power assist. Now I'll be rolling in there with 4 wheel power assisted disks. Can you still do things the old fashioned way, what we used to call power braking it? Do things like traction control and anti lock break systems kick in and mess things all up?
When I was young and frisky, I could could cook slicks through 4 gears with one foot working the brake and gas, the other the clutch. I don't think I could ever do that again, but I don't have to. I got me an auto this time.
I suppose I could go over to my shop and practice in the parking lot one night this week.
I'm going to have a blast with this car and Ford is going to be my free pit crew for the next few years, cuz I ain't touching anything that can void a warranty. Anything breaks, I get my AAA to tow it to the dealer, "I don't know what happened I was just stretching her out a bit and blammo!"
