Should I do forged internals before the S/C?

My car has 75k miles on it. Should I buy a forged short block and some s/c cams before doing the s/c? Probably going with a KB or Whipple. how much more boost can I run if I get forged internals?

Thinking maybe of just building a completely seperate motor to decrease down time, so i can just drop it in when im ready. Thinking maybe MMA shortblock, should I do stock PI heads or something different? Was thinking stock heads and blower cams.

Personally, I would boost the stock motor until it gives, then get forged internals.
Dropping your new motor and swapping the supercharger to it should not be more than a weekend.
Never heard of MMA (don;t know much about modulars anyways) but the people I would talk to if I was to do a modular motor would be MMR

I was also thinking about supporting the local economy if I could find a decent machine shop around here. But dont know of too many. Maybe ill check out the POPS site and see what kind of info they have

IF you were planning on keeping the stock block for later usage I would say yes and go with that plan you outlined. Otherwise boost it till it pops and build another...

the other thing I was thinking was to recoup some of the cost of the build was being able to sell my current drivetrain when the other one is ready to go in.

id say bulid a seperate forged internal motor, check out DSS. that way if anything does go wrong you always have the stocker to fall back on

ill def give them a call! Im just brainstorming right now cuz I wont have the cash to do anything until I go back to work but its good to know theres a decent shop around here. ANyone know of any good books written about the 4.6L and how to build one for different applications?

I would buy all the forged stuff and hold it till you get the supercharger. Forged is worth it. I have seen up to 26 pounds of boost on the forged internals. I am sure you can run more. I run 15 pounds now and I was thinking about going 20 pounds. I doubt I will be I would still feel safe if I did. Detonation is your biggest worries so a water/methonal kit with your setup is a good security and more power for you.:rock:

I would deff get a forged bottom end, i went the other route and got the supercharger first and running 10lbs or boost its still alot of fun and fast. I'll rebuild the bottom end next winter or if it blows, whichever comes first lol

I would say if you can get your hands on a Cobra engine with the s/c I would do that. I would say a stock PI engine can handle 500 hp. So a forged bottom end? I dont know if it is worth it. If I were you I would run the stock engine until it dies.
