I currently have a nice little system in the trunk-no more spare & made the trunk system look like a mock up of my 2 tone interior.
Looks killer but I want to replace my old Alpine 1 DIN Head unit w/more modern Pioneer 2 DIN Unit w/Bluetooth, Pandora, etc.
Problem I have is like everything else w/my car-I have the first year body style so on the '99s & '00 Ford had two 1 DIN compartments for it's Mach 460 stereo. The top DIN compartment if I remember correctly held the AM/FM Cassette head unit & the second DIN held the single CD player. There's a metal bar separating each single DIN compartments so that bar needs to be cut out in order to make a 2 DIN fit. I show the car occassionaly & plan on being in Charlotte, NC next April for the 50th anniversary national show from April 16-20, 2014.
I heard that Ford went to a double DIN configuration in 2001 & if you can get a center piece out of a junkyard it would possibly be the way to go.
A) Has anyone done this mod on a '99 or '00 MUSTANG?
If so please share experience, photos & advice.
B) Anyone know of a excellent shop in Brooklyn to do the customization/conversion? I was quoted $450 to cut out the bar to make space, put in kit, complete install w/new carbon fiber to replace the old one that's going to be cut. Don't know if $450 is too much. I rather have it for less BUT I DON'T WANT TO SACRIFICE QUALITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP IN ORDER TO SAVE $100. I WANT IT TO LOOK STOCK & FLUSH & NOT STICK OUT OR BE OFFLINE. I went to Creative audio on 65th & 3rd avenue & spoke w/Kenny. Don't really know if he's the best or not, although he did come recommended.
Let me know what you guys think, any help, photos, & suggestions are appreciated.
