i called realspeed today and got a couple of prices for cams for my 05 gt, just wanted to know ppls opinions on them, i was thinking about getting a stage 2 with spings, would appreciate any feedback
should be good. I'd say thats pretty close to the limit with stock heads. comp cams have high lift. I would suggest getting charge motion delete plates or economy plates.
also, ask them if you with need phaser limiters or lockouts.
oh ok, pretty sure they didnt mention that, they're gonna call me to confirm the appointment, so when they do i'll ask. so do u think its worth it to do the cams and springs or should i just get the cams that dont require me to swap them?
well they told me without springs i gain about 20hp, with springs i get about 40, but its a big price difference so i just wanted to see if any1 has a setup similar to mine to confirm that
I am going with the comp stage 2 XFI VSR's. They have minimal overlap and do not require phase limiters. I am also going F/I, so I needed the cams with springs and retainers.
Ok the SPR stage 2's will make the most power. And if I were you I would get the STEEDA race delete plates. They are way better with a cammed car. The econo plates are ok but they will not optimize air flow. The steeda are port matched.
All up to you. I run the steeda and they are really really nice up top. And good luck with your car should be sweet no matter what you pick.
Delete plates are a Mod you can totally do yourself, just takes a couple hours but it will save you money in labor. The Charge Motion vavles are in each port at the bottom of the intake manifold, they open and closed based on throttle to improve gas milage and help with low end torque, this fine for a stock config but one you start improving the airflow (CAI) they become restrictive. Delete plates are the same as the plates you currently have in your car but without the Charge motion valves, the race delete plates have ported opening that will match your heads better and give you a bit more flow than the econo-plates will, they are made of billet aliminum and can be routed to accept nitrous nozzles.
here is a step by step install guide with pics by Taco Bill, i used this when installing my delete plates.
As far as cams go, the Comp stage 2 SPR will make you more hp than than any NSR cam, they may not sound as radical as thumpers or hotrods because theres less overlap but you can still hear that there is a cam in there. A friend made 340 RWHP on a Mustang Dyno with LT's/ OR H and CAI with Dan's Dyno tune, thats about 375 hp in Dyno jet langauge based on an 11% avg difference between the two.
I made 302 RWHP @ 6400 RPM (Mustang Dyno) FRPP HotRods, CAI, Delete Plates, OEM cats, thats about 335 RWHP in Dyno Jet speak. I have since added High flow cats but they prolly wont be worth more than 5 ish RWHP.
