Please tell me my motor isn't fubared

Well I decided to flip it on the stand and pop the oil pan off, then I found 2 piece of metal and some sort of small pin that has some sort of gear on the shaft. I was looking around and simply can't fins where it is from, there are no obvious chunks missing from the block or any other place that I can see without pulling it out further. Few questions I have....

-Should I be able to turn the motor easily or not when I have a socket on the harmonic balance bolt?
-How much would it cost to have a machine shop look it over, clean up the block, and hone the cylinder walls?
-Any guesses as to where the metal is from?
-Is this motor worth the rebuild?

Sounds like it might be from the oil pump.

check your distributor gear

i just saw the pictures so i dont think it would be the distributor but it wouldnt hurt to check it. looks like it might be a piece of a pistion (side skirts) or a chunk off the crank somewhere. its hard to tell from the pics, never seen that kind of metal chunk laying in a motor. what type of metal is it? do you know? aluminum or cast? and how thick is it?

That motor has seen better days too... I wouldnt even run that the way that looks with all that sludge. i would rebuild it. Good chance that, that motor is no good.

It's aluminum.....if it is part of the piston, is it fixable or would it be outrageously expensive?

Sure it's aluminum? It definitly look's like the piston.

Get a new set of pistons and clean everything else up and put new rings and bearings it. Clean the shit out of that motor and clean the oil pump and pick up very good with a parts washer and brake cleaner

depends, take the bottom end out, see what piston shit the bed, see how bad the damage is on the block where the piston came out, see how scored the sidewalls are. if its not bad, just go get the block bored, honed and hot tanked., that'll run you about $150-200 if that

Can I just unbolt the crank caps and pull the whole assembly out at once?

it does look like a piece piston skirt, but the pin looks like the ones I have seen used in baffles (specially aftermarket valve cover baffles) Take the thing apart and see if you can find out where it came from.

i have a motor that the crank is bad but the block rods and pistons are in good shape. i'll sell it cheap, it's out of a 1989 GT

Well, good news I got it unstuck with mass amounts of lube(that's what she said) and the broken pieces are in fact the piston skirt. Hard to tell with the picture but you get the point. I looked and felt the cylinder and there doesn't appear to be any damage that a good honing won't fix. Here is a shitty picture.

the pieces deff look like piston skirts .... look at the bottms of the pistons " ya should be able to see them al whilee lookin under the crank . the smal bolt or pin looks like a baffle bolt . by the looks of the motor and that pan it is hammered , take it to a reputable machine shop and get it rebuilt . ya can get a compete rotating assembly from eagle for about 1500 or so then have the block bored/ honed to them and with a fresh bottom end . oh and eagle kits come with bearings "clevite77" and prebalanced so its a great deal , but deff do not run that motor as ya will be pullin at soon as ya fire it so dont waste the time and do it right the first time man
