Open Header Question

lol, it would run with open headers, and depending how much power you have, it would help or hinder, some drag cars run better with open headers, but if thats a street car i would not suggest running open headers....as an alternative i would buy cut outs, ... QTP makes a great electric cut out, that opens and closes with the flip of a switch

If air can leave easier, then you increase your ability to take in more air, thus making more power.
A well designed open header will always produce more power than the same header with a full exhaust.
Dont get caught by the sound police though.

I guess you never herd of these terms? This is what you loose when your header isn't set for an open style exhaust...... When you look at the bigger companies in the biz, many factors play into the design of the header for proper use. Most of the stuff we buy over the counter is designed with the idea of an exhaust system being used after the collector. :smash:
Pumping Losses – Work done by the engine in pumping intake charge into the cylinders, and exhaust gases out of the cylinders
Scavenging – Removal of exhaust gases
Scavenging Wave – Low pressure wave provided by the exhaust system for scavenging the cylinder and combustion chamber

What are you trying to prove with these terms? Show me an example of a correctly assembled engine that slows down when going from a full exhaust to open headers.
Back pressure is not necesary to a large extent, getting the most possible air out of the engine is.

Air needs to get in, and out.... efficiently. A bigger exhaust will help it out. So will a bigger valve, but the bigger exhaust will help.
I dont get what your trying to prove by just showing a definition. I know what scavenging is, and I know what the scavenging wave is. In what way does it relate to an open header being a bad idea?

My friend always used to run with open BBK longtubes at the track and ran awesome times for the mild combo he had so I don't think he lost much. I would not run it like that on the street. But at the track he launched at 5500 and shifted at 6000 so the RPM drop was not much. 10.81@126.7 1.42 60ft with a STOCK 5.0 shortblock and T-5...with Edelbrock heads/mild cam/intake/70mm TB/Powerdyne and some weight reduction! Also stock 8.8 other than axles and gears.
