if you guys are afraid of the nitrous then why use it or give advice about it? the stock block can, will, and has for many years held up to 250 shot on 87-90 mustangs, with the switch to hyper pistons we kept it under a 200 shot. The block itself does not dictate what amount of nitrous you can put through it, its the combination of gakets, bolts,cam, fuel and timing that will decide whats doable. The stock bottom end on a ford is plenty strong enough to handle 500 hp be it from nitrous or N/A, if you fear the nos then please dont use it. Also, a carb style intake will handle the larger hits better than the typical fi intakes as it will have better distribution, the dry kits are not generally good for over a 125 shot and typically lift the head due to a poor fuel setup.

There is a difference between being afraid and being stupid. There is no way a stock 5.0 will handle a 300 shot more than a couple times by a trained professional. The torque from a 300 shot will turn thun that block into a pile of iron. Realisticaly, keep it under a 150 shot and you will be safe.

well, i guess thats fine. whatever is comfortable for the owner is what should be used. by no means am i saying anyone should spray a 250 shot, as you have to be well versed in the use of nitrous to push the limits but believe me a stock block will hold a 250 shot on a mild motor, i come from a time when aluminum heads and dart blocks werent even made and we made due with iron heads and alot of nitrous, obviously the more N/A power you make the less nitrous you can use on a stock botom end but its not uncommon to take a mid-high 12 sec car and spray it to the 10's. for a daily driver a 150 shot is plenty of fun ,for winning races a 250 shot is fine. again, im not telling anyone to go out and spray 250, im just answering the question of what the max is and anyone who thinks im crazy is more than welcome to come by and see it for themselves. Try to remember there are plenty of people with 14 lbs of boost on stock motors as well as high comp N/A stock block motors that go in the 9's and they hold up, the motor is only as good as its weakest link and the block itsnt it.

The factory block on a built app IS the weak link. I wish I hadent used the stock block, b/c I would be hitting it with a 250 kit as all the internals are good for it. The factory blocks are prone to splitting, and Ive already done it once years and years back WITHOUT spray!

Sure there are guys running 150-200 shots on stock block cars, but you usually only see a few passes out of them, and dont hear much about em after.. Longevity comes into play there.
