The common misconception is that a nitrous system is way cheaper than any other power adder. Sure, the kit is a lot cheaper...........but what about the rest of the stuff you will need to do it properly?
Bottle heater
Burst fitting
Blow down tube
Timing controller
Pressure gauge
Wiring a complete system
RPM window switch
Purge
etc.....
It all adds up fast but there is a right way and wrong way to do a nitrous system. Most don't realize until they get involved with the install, and some don't care.

EXACTLY! All kinds of people around here tossed nitrous on cars with not even a warmer.:nono: Done RIGHT nitrous is awesome but not many do it that way. Half the people running 75 shots probably were getting a 30 shot lol.

I like superchargers but I am maybe a little biased. I have owned Powerdyne and Vortech and have installed Paxton, Vortech, Powerdyne, and Kenne Bell on 5.0 stangs and my LX had a ProCharger before as well.

I installed nitrous on my cousin's 89 GT years ago but he got sick of filling the bottle all the time. To do a nice setup right with a bottle warmer, gauges, purge, etc. it is almost the cost of a used SC.

Not to get off topic, but out of all those s/cs, which one did you like the best?

Not to get off topic, but out of all those s/cs, which one did you like the best?

Tough to say! Kenne Bell is extremely fun on the street and runs decent at the track, install is a little easier than others. Doesn't require much for gear, a guy I know ran 12's with 2.73 gears still.

Powerdyne is super easy install, limited boost wise and some have bearing/belt issues but it is a great street/strip sc. I ran 12's with one on a basically stock 93 GT and my friend ran high 10's with one.

Vortech is probably my favorite as far as reliability and availability of parts. Not a tough install, easier now with the V3 self contained setups.

Paxton's are really great too, I only messed with the NOVI 1000 though. All the new Paxton are basically the same as a Vortech now.

ProCharger works well but the P1SC had seal issues, and the install is more complicated. I think I like the sound of that the best. I have pics of that setup on my car (P1SC with 12 rib and upgraded intercooler).

No, that is not what I am saying. But if you have a stock 5.0 and buy a supercharger kit it is ready to go other than maybe a fuel pump. I have installed a pile of them, running 19lbers and FMU and all of them run 12's with mild boost and ZERO tuning. Heck my cousin ran 12.48@111 with a 170k + mile 89 GT..on 17" wheels..no tune..19lbers..FMU. And it would run like that all day long pretty much.

All power adders add up in cost once installed and running it tuned properly!! I can buy a used nitrous system/with purge dirt cheap, if I wanted to go that route!

Phil there are a more and more people learning what it takes to properly install a nitrous kit. The problem is that a lot of people think they can just buy some run-of-the mill universal nitrous kit, slap it on and go racing. They try it, blow their junk and bash nitrous saying it sucks. Nitrous oxide is probably the most difficult power adder to tune. Even the manufactures give shitty tunes right out of the box. It wasn't until last year that they all finally ditched the ancient jet spreads for something a little more tune friendly.
I for one am a junky. I love using it, tuning it and trying to get the most out of it. I spent a whole season on my brother's plate tune and never changed a jet. It was all timing and fuel pressure. At the end of the day the car went from 12.17 N/A to 10.54 with a 50N/46F, 31.5* total timing and 5 1/4 lbs flowing fuel pressure. People didn't believe it picked up that much even when I pulled the jets out to prove it. I will tell you this though. I bet I spent 10 boxes of spark plugs, slamming new ones in every pass to get it just right. Now all I have to do is check the fuel pressure before the run and let it eat!!

I have nothing against it, I just don't think the basic EFI setups are the best for distribution and like mentioned many people gave it a bad name by tossing it on there car untuned. All kinds of people think it blows engines, nitrous doesn't blow shit up idiots using it does. LOL Same with superchargers or any other power adder, it's just a bigger learning curve I think with nitrous. I am not trying to discourage it, I have seen MANY very fast cars at the track with it.

The EFI intakes are not designed to flow fuel, which is why puddling can be a problem. You have to be smart with nitrous, that is for sure! I converted my 03 DOHC motor to a Sullivan/carburetor and MSD crank trigger distributor setup, built all forged motor, high CR. I will be running a perimeter plate nitrous system which is already installed.

I started using wet nitrous system back in 04, when my mach 1 was factory.
