Let me start off by saying that this is my 3rd Mustang. I have replaced a rear end in my time and have replaced all the the suspension parts back there. Changed the rear end in my 79 Malibu and the suspension in my 97 Cobra. Now I have the IRS and its somewhat confusing to me. I'm planing on taking a look under my car tomorrow because I have a popping/clicking noise coming from the rear when I slow down to a stop. I also have a lot of shaking/vibration when engaging 1st gear (steering wheel shakes a bit), but I'm not sure if these two symptoms are related. I am going to inspect the drive shaft U-joint bolts (these should be OK though cause I just had a clutch installed), boots, fluid level, etc. I was also told by the installer of the clutch the tranny mounts looked fine so I don't think the vibration is coming form there. I did have Poly IRS sub frame bushings installed with the clutch. My thinking is the noise may be coming from the half shaft retaining nuts being loose. But I'm not really sure where these bolts are located exactly. Are they the bolts that are in the center of the hub or are they somewhere else? Any idea of the torque specs on these? If its not those bolts I think that it may be the ring and pinion gears on their way out. I thought that I would have some understanding the the IRS on these car but at this point I feel like a complete newbie.
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post....
