Need some help! Can anyone somewhat close to me help a buddy out?!

If anyone is somewhat close to Ft. Drum could you possibly help me out!! Having troubles diagnosing what is actually wrong with my stang's idle!! Getting fed up with this and running out of options! A second set of eyes and ears would help a bunch. I bought this car a few months ago with a few problems that I've already fixed but this last one which is the worst of all! She surges and then dies...I don't have access to a FP tester to see what it's actually putting out for FP...Timing is on and spark is all there...AT WITTS END! Please help...Thanks in advance for all your guys' help on this!

Did you check for vacuum leaks?
Have you tried cleaning your IAC valve? Maybe replacing it?
Does the car stay running when if you give it gas?
Has the car backfired out the exhaust?
Any codes?

My fatheres 5.0 has an irregular idle, but I believe it to be in the tune.


Check what Maximum says, he knows more than I do.

But the surging and then die is making me lean towards a fuel problem.

Does it just die, or is there a moment of sputtering?

More info the better, post a vid also if possible.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I have done an extensive search for vaccum leaks...even had the upper off and went through all of the lines...some I replaced but otherwise all looks good there! I had the IAC off when I tore down the upper...Cleaned it up good. (Looked fairly new to begin with!) The only thing that I'm in question about is the fuel like you said in the previous post...The guy told me that it has a 190lph pump...Have'nt verified it though...Also the injectors are still stock! Could this be my problem?? I have a set of 24lb'ers sittn around that I mite install just to see what happens...Also, I do believe that there is a FPR on it...not like one I've ever seen before though.(Don't recognize the make of it) One last thing...I don't have a FP tester...I purchased one from autozone a little while back but was the wrong fitting for my schroeder valve...and I could't find and adapter anywhere for it! Not one hardware store! So, any other ideas or suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks for helping me out on this guys!

Forgot to add a few things in my last post...No Check Engine lite...The car does not backfire and it does stay idling when I give it gas...Then just starts a minor surge that gets worse and will eventually choke itself out and die if I don't give it gas! Also, when I'm driving it seems to have a constant sputter almost...like a small miss when I'm cruisn'...I'll try to post a vid of it when I get home tonite.

-has the car been tuned for those mods?
-The stock 19lb injectors will not keep up with the mods, but the car should idle (if tuned)
-try cleaning and or clocking your MAF and see if idle quality improves.
-check your fuel filter.

I have seen cheap gauges at Autozone that should fit, or you can get on from Ebay or Summit Racing/ Jegs for about $30. It is a good tool to have.

I think I'm going to try throwing those inj. in tonite...Can't hurt anything rite, can only help! I've cleaned the MAF out and tried using high octane fuel...No difference.(Thanks for the ideas though!) Also, how do I "clock" the MAF you said?? I've never done that before...Please let me know!

Spark plugs look good...They don't smell like fuel at all and they don't look burndt...

"clocking the MAF" means turning it clock or counter clock wise, changing the way air comes in contact in the sensor.
One question though, which MAF are you running? Is it a C&L by any chance? and is it calibrated for 19 or 24 lb injectors?
If your MAF is calibrated for 24lb injectors and you are running 19's that COULD be your problem.

Well to be real honest with you...I'm not too sure what it's calibrated too! I'm just going by what the guy told me and I believe he may have mentioned that the MAF was calibrated to these 19lb inj...But with the way it ran when I bought it, it's definately hard to believe! I guess I have another dumb ? then...How do I tell if my MAF is a "C&L"?? So then would you say that my next step pretty much is too put those 24lb'ers in?? OR??

What type of intake do you have? If you have an open air filter and an aftermarket MAF you can get fan wash. Basically the air from the fan blows into the filter and disrupts the reading of the MAF.

E303 cars are hit and miss with idle too. I just made a chip for a guy with one in his car that had alot of idle issues.

Technically, the 19lbers will support the power you have but you will be close to maxing them out for sure, but that has zero to do with your idle.

Just went to the garage and checked the MAF situation...It's and Anderson MAF...I have the Anderson Powerpipe MAF set-up that runs into the fender. It also reads under calib: 19lb...So I gues the MAF is corresct then...Now I'm confused ....So I'm lacking fuel then should I install these 24lb? and if I do, will I need a diff MAF for 24lb inj??

Do not change the injectors yet as you will need a different MAF. Like stated above, try rotating the MAF housing with car running and see if it clears it up.

I rotated the MAF a little bit last nite when I read the Info on it(About an inch)...How far should I turn it?? An inch or 2? Or...Sorry about all of the ?'s guys! One way or another we'll get this figured out.

can be as much as 90 degrees from the top, USUALLY counter clockwise works best (so the meter is sideways with the sensor at the 9 o clock position.
What's before the meter? Is there a straight tube or just the air filter?
Can you post a pic of the MAF area?
Oh, and what is been used to tune the car?

I'll try and post up a pic of it asap...It looks to me like the MAF and filter are combined as "one" unit. Also, to my knowlege this car has NOT been tuned...Maybe that's the prob??

Everything looks fine from here. Try turning the MAF the other way so that the sensor is on the opposite side.
Do you have anyone near you that could lend you their stock MAF so you can try it out?

Also, the car not been tuned is not helping you either. When I first put heads, cam, intake in my car, it would not idle at all.
