I just got them professionally done yesterday, car runs great, but they whine on light throttle. I'm reading up now that a lot of motive gears are noisy. Can I expect the whine to fade after riding on them a bit or should I just get used to the sound?
Motive Gears are lapped together and should not make noise. On acceleration that usually means they are a little too tight. If they whine on decel it's because they are too loose. Just my $.02

my frpp 4.10's have whined since new just the same way yours do, i had it done professionally and i've messed with them myself to no avail. i've put 15k on them and the sound never changes. so maybe you should get louder mufflers to drowned it out! jk, but good luck getting the shop to look at it, hopefully the fix it for you
I think I remember reading somewhere that its a kind of trial and error thing with the Motive gears. Like they may whine but you need to shim the correctly or something like that to get them right. Like where I read that the guy had the same problem with his 3.73s that were also professionally installed and it was a shimming problem. Again I am not certain what that means but I can try and find the thread about it to see if there is a solution or a better explanation.

Thanks, I'm going to try to get it in sometime next week. When you say you've messed with them, can you adjust it without having to take everything off?
This could be a good opportunity to go for the pypes violaters

you have to take the rear totally apart as if you are setting it up for the first time to move the shims around to adjust the backlash(clearance between the ring and pinion)
Cool, I didn't think they made them anymore for the 7.5. I'm going to try and see how this pans out first before I consider getting rid of the motives.
I called the shop, I'm bringing it in on Saturday. but they are sticking to their guns that its a noisy gear. At this point I just want to find out what the vibration is, they say it sounds more like the driveshaft or tires and that gears won't cause shaking.
