i was told i had the aperature open a bit too much on the top picture (front of the car)...which i think i can see, and i can agree with...any photographers here want to critique it?

Could you post a non HDR shot for comparision?

A couple of suggestions from a fellow shutterbug (although not lately). HDR really shines when the exposure range of the photo is large. For example, having a sunset/sunrise in the background and your car in foreground. A regular picture will be exposed for either the sun or the car. if it was exposed for the sun, your car will be a dark silhouette. If you exposed for the car, the sunset will be overexposed. BUT with HDR you can take multiple shots and merge them. Both the sun and car will be properly exeposed. Sometimes to the point of being unrealistic. Try a few shots that have a wide differance in exposure needs qand see how they come out.

JR4, thats what i did, both those photos are -2EV, 0EV, and +2EV merged together in photomatix, and then retouched to what i thought looked cool

thank you all for the compliments! everyone in this club is so nice!

ill be at the west islip show on saturday and the flowerfield show on sunday, if your there find me, im a big fat guy with rosy red cheeks, very short hair, and glasses. id be happy to take some pictures of your car, im just learning how to do this kinda stuff, only way to get good is with more practice!!

anyone that wants me to take pictures at the cruise on 4/25 i will happily do so as well.

First off , do not change the aperture. leave the aperture set and go a few stops down with the shutter and then a few stops up with the shutter. make sure you mount the camera on a tripod. By changing your aperture, you are changing your depth of field. In brief, depth of field has to do with how much of the subject is in or out of focus. And I have to agree that they look like phone pics. It takes practice and patience. The best part is you are out there shooting and enjoying your D3000. That's what it's about. :awesomework:
