mods on a 1986 mustang gt HO Motor

i have a question about my motor ...Here are all the mods i have to my car, ported gt40 upper and lower with a 70mm throttle body and spacer,full exhaust, underdrive pulleys,bbk cold air intake,30 pound injectors and now i bought E7 heads off a site and then had them sent out to get ported, milled and upgraded valve springs.also getting a set of long tube headers when i put the heads on they'll go on, I wanted to know what kind of cam to use because the 86 mustang motors do not have valve reliefs and im worried about clearance isses

get your pistons flycut then you can run a aftermarket cam

Not really. Crane used to make one years ago but it really wasnt worth it. If you dont want to cut your pistons then you can use 1.72 roller rockers.
Flycutting pistons is not hard. You can do it while you do the head swap. You can get the tool from Summit or Jegs.

An e-303 with 1.6 rockers won't work??? I thought that cam was damn close to stock.

i don't think it will work, but try it just check your piston to valve clearance.

i have a 1989 5.0 block, and rods for sale. it just needs a crank. i'll let it go cheap you can use the e 303 cam in it.

Alot of people have used the B and E cams in 86's but personally I would not do it unless you clay the pistons. You can buy a notching tool or make one actually and then run whatever you want for a cam. The stock cam with some 1.7 rockers would not be bad though.

The stock cam is .444 lift. The e-303 is .488 with 224 deg duration.

put in a stock cam, not the 86 cam though . i prefer a 90 cam but anything 89 up is fine. with SD youre better off with a stock cam and you will not likely pick up any power over a stock cam with your setup. the injectors are way big for what you have and you will run rich. do you plan on going to mass air?

I just assumed it was swapped to MAF already, it's going to run like A$$ with 30lbers and SD. 19lbers would be the only choice really..

yea i agree 30#'s are to much without being swapped to MAF do that or it will defeat the purpose of the injectors

try a comp cam XE258 it will work and im pretty sure youll like it
it is a basically a HO cam but with more ooompag

hi mustang gt, as far as i know, ab303 cam was the bigest one to use with stock valve trane. but its been a while since i looked that one up. dont quote me...........

I would flycut the pistons for sure. Why run a half ass cam in it?

IMHO 30#'rs are serious overkill. A set of 19's are plenty for what your running. 94 - 95 mustangs came stock w/ e 7's and 19's work just fine.
