Mid-pipes and Headers.

Alright, well I've had the car for about 7 months now, and my boyfriend officially ordered the Turbo kit for his car which is supposed to be giving him 550-600 RWHP. Obviously my car is nowhere near that, and I'm not looking for that, but I am ready to start doing at least something to the car. Someone suggested finishing my exhaust, so I think that's what I want to do. I just need some opinions first.

I'm thinking about doing long-tube headers, I'm just not sure whether or not to go with H-pipes or an X-pipe. I read that the X-pipe sounds more raspy, b ut when the car gets up there in HP, it's the better choice. I do plan on Supercharging it, eventually, so I'm not sure if that's what I should do. And do the X-pipes come catted, or would they just get rid of the cats all together?

Also... I have a Bassani catback. A friend of mine has one too, but he said if you put a different brand mid-pipe on there, it voids Bassani's lifetime warranty. I wanted to stick with Bassani anyway, but I'm not really having too much luck finding what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions on anything?
Or any good websites recommended to look on?
(And I'm going to be making a trip to Mustang Magic as soon as I find time!)

I do plan on Supercharging it, but I want it to be a little bit louder than it already is. And isn't it like, any little bit of HP helps?

if you want loud then you need to ditch the cats, and 10-15 hp really isnt that much seeing as that will be at the crank and not the wheels. as to any little bit counts, it really doesnt. if you put an exhaust on there that isnt right for the car it will actuallly end up hurting your performance

You wont even notice the difference. You MAY shave .02 off your 1/4 time if that. If your dead set on spending money, just get the O/R X pipe for the sound you want, and get a tune

Well if in all honesty, finishing the exhaust won't do much for the car, then maybe I won't do that. But what would be next then? I want it to be a little quick, I mean it's a Mustang, it deserves that.

GTStatus weren't you on another site asking about a S?C (vortech)? I remember reading a story similar to yours before :confused:.. I say go get a loan and do what you have to to beat you man's import. :D

Yeah, I'm on a few sites, lol Unfortunately though a loan for that is definitely not possible right now, what with the loan I'm already paying on the car, the car insurance, and my school loans... I'll eventually get there I hope lol But my boyfriend is very excited about his car so I don't want to crush his spirit or anything by beating him just yet!!

I'm a little embarrassed that I must sound so clueless, but how do I go about actually getting gears? Is that something I can buy online or something? And there are a few different numbers people have suggested -- why did you suggest 4.10's?

SOTP is stomp on the pedal. It means something that you will actually feel by the seat of your pants.

As for gearing you should lay out the plans for what you want to accomplish with the car first. Rather than just keeping mentioning ideas of different parts, you should tell us what you want the car to be capable of.:D

Once you get that figured out we could collectively build you the blueprints to a quality machine.

If you are going to do exhaust I think you should go with a catted x pipe and catback. I personally like the borla stingers and magnaflow magnapacks. I would hold off on the Long tube headers. Too much money for the performance you will gain at this point. I am going to assume you are going to be riding around naturally aspirated for a while so I would recommend a 4.10 rear gear. Your auto overdrive is .70 compared to the manual .68. Not enough of a difference to worry about. You will have no problems daily driving 4.10's. I DD 4.30's for over a year without problems.

Well I already have the catback, Bassani, actually. I decided yesterday that I'm gonna get the catted Bassani X-pipe and then with that a set of BBK shorty headers. The gears I gotta look further into, because I really don't understand what exactly they are and what the different ratios actually mean.

And Chris, that definitely sounds like a plan! I'm not looking for some crazy 700HP monster or anything, I just want something quick enough that will let me beat some of the imports my boyfriend hangs around with. I'll probably never be quick enough to beat his Supra, after the Turbo he's putting in there and everything else, although I would love to. I mean if I could come close to that, it'd be awesome, but I'm just looking for something that people will respect, you know? Like if they rag on it I'll just take it to the streets and shut 'em up ^_^
