I usually do them with out pulling the gauges. I reach up behind the dash on the switch there is a small button, you have to push and hold that down while you pull out the chrome stalk. After that I remove the bezel ( they make a special tool but a large screwdriver works fine) .once the bezel is off you can drop the switch down, unplug it from the harness . plug in the new switch and reverse the steps. It's a tight fit, there's not much slack on the wiring harness so it can be a bit of a pain. Alot of people feel it is easier to unscrew the gauge cluster and move to the side.Good luck with the repair
