Hello all,

Not sure where to post this, but i guess in my case it pertains to foxbody's. Was just looking to get some opinions on where fellow foxbody owners insure their cars through? My car (’89 LX hatch) was off the road last year due to an injury, so I will need to re-register, inspect and insure it. I am more looking for a collector type of insurance; the Mustang is my 3rd vehicle, so it will only get driven on nice days, and to some Ford shows. I currently have my insurance through State farm, I pay $450 for my truck, and $250 for my Jeep every six months. If I add the car it will be in the $150-200 range (unlimited mileage, plain-jane insurance). Does anyone know of any collector place that will accept a newer car such as an ’89? Since it’s not truly a “classic”. I am also 22 years old, so that hurts too. Thanks for any input, I miss driving the car, but I was hoping to have it added for less since it doesn’t get driven much.

Yeah there really isn't any other way I know of to get the premium to be lower. I see you said unlimited mileage and the low insurance, why not have it set as a pleasure car and only 3500 miles a year (if you didn't mean that already.)

I have a 1991 GT and recieved a quote for $490 a year for $20k coverage from american collectors with a $500 deduct. comp/collision

and $397 a year from hagerty for $20k coverage with a zero deduct. comp/collision with free towing

I'm not 22yrs though, and they do require proof of another "daily use" vehicle

hagerty seems the way to go

Im going to start calling around this week for quotes and too see who would insure me. I wouldnt mind having it pleasure, as i hardly drive it as is. Plus i have 2 other vehicles that are daily drivers that i can prove.

As long as you have the other car to put on with the mustang then you can put it as pleasure. There not going to check how much you drive it anyhow if its under pleasure.

Called my insurance company the other day (State Farm) They want 190 bucks every 6 months, so 380 per year. That’s limited mileage, and liability only, nothing else is covered. And my other two vehicles are insured through them! I also called Hagerty, they want 415 bucks a year. That’s with total coverage, 0 deductable, 5k total loss reimbursement @ 4k miles per year. So I think that’s the way I am going to go. But Hagerty bases a premium on a household, so that means they need to know everything about the other drivers in the house. My youngest brother has had traffic violations, but I believe he got out of them, if not then that will affect my insurance also! WTF…

Wow, thanks for this info!!!!!! I have a 91 that I recently picked up to restore and was going thru the same dilemma of adding it onto my regular insurance policy and paying a bunch of money a year for just liability.
I called Haggerty and wound up getting a 12 month policy with them for $450. You sir, are the man.

my car isnt my primary, so its cheapo
plus its insured thru same co as my daily driver
so i get another % off

so the % off cheaper i would get thru haggerty or whomever isnt worth it

all my cars are thru Travelers

Th problem with insuring you car through a regular agency is the agrreed upon value. If you demolish it, you get book value. I have my car insured through Haggerty even though it is a 96. At least I will get what I put into it if there is a loss.

Thats what i am worried about.... KBB on my car is 1900 bucks, i paid 3200 for it, plus my mods.

American Collectors is the way to go.Insured my 91 LX hatch,10,000.00 worth,full coverage,5000 mile limit,216.00 for the year.My 01 Bullitt,15,000.00worth,full coverage,5,000 mile limit,306.00 a year

Also, just to note for anyone thinking about this, you need to declare your coverage of your Stang, so if you paid 3K and put 5K into it, you can declare it for 8K. Also, Haggerty asked me to upload photos of my car to them (to ensure its not junk I suppose) and you have to have another car with insurance that is your "daily" driver. The turnaround process was fairly quick, paid with a credit card and I had ID cards next day.
