Yes look for an 89-93 mustang. Will have Mass air, Which will make your life eaiser to mod. But from 79-85 where carb cars. All depends on what you looking for. 87-88 where F.I. But speed denstiy. Can't not really mod like a mass air car
If it is going to be your first 5.0 I would get this book (link Below) and do some research. There are 2 different body styles. You have your 4 eye and then the more aero ones. It all depends on what you like. If you know anyone that does body work bring them with you when you go to look at a few cars. They will tell you if they are staright or not.

do it!! one thing to watch out for is damage to torque boxes and front frame rails, Make sure you take a close look at the tq boxes to make sure tere are no cracks, etc.
And pay close attention to the front frame rails right under the strut towers, I see them rot there all the time and they usually start rotting from the inside.
For example my buddy bought a pretty clean 87 vert GT all stock a while back, everything looked mint, a few months later we pulled the motor and the front rails crumbled apart when we tapped them with a hammer
and you dont have to do fuel injection....I know quite a few people with carb'd daily drivers

if i were you id stick with an 89-92 car...MAF FTW!!...like TERROR said..torque boxes are a huuuge deal..pay attention to them. if your going to run it hard or at the track..most will tell you to stay away from verts...its not impossible for them to be good track cars just more work. notches have the highest resale value and are best for racing....most foxs rust under the hatch so take a look there...make sure the heater core isnt leaking..thats a bi*ch to change...fox gauges suck so if u had a mechanical oil pressure gauge to bring with you and hook up that would be a big plus
I love my 95, but if I had the chance to snag a fox body I would. I love the lx's. These guys summed it up. Just watch for rust. Yes there is going to be some because these cars are 20-25 years old, but you can find ones that have been taken care of. Like someone said before the resale value of these cars keeps going up. If you dont believe us look them up on autotrader. Do a 200 mile radus from your zip and you will see that some dealers have them in the $20,000 range. Jon
yea i remember when i was in high school in the early 80's, you could have gotten 70 chevelles for 200 bucks. running, no rust, parked in an old mans garage. now you cant touch one. 70 chevelle rust buckets are now 10 grand. The point in trying to make is, I think the 87-93 fox body mustangs are today's "70 chevelles" in terms of future value. they can be had right now for not too much money, but i guarantee you as the years go on these cars are going to be worth a mint.
I drove my fox all winter. I have a 01 concorde lxi too but , My wife drives my kids around in that. I bought four new winter force tires and a 60lb bag of tube sand. Never came close to getting stuck. Mine already had some rust though. I really didn't have a choice. no money to buy a winter rat. I'm starting body work this weekend. Next winter I will not be driving it no matter what.
