I was given a price of 300 to put a set of 355 gears in my 91 8.8" rear.Is that a high price? The guy said it would take like 6-8 hours .

I just checked my gear kit and the speedo is in there so maybe he will do it too ... I'm ordering a new instrument cluster too ... Screw it might as well

This kit has everything in it but I don't see bearings .. Guess they are separate?? Only paid 100 for the brand new kit from mustangs unlimited , the bearings don't have to be different cause my gears are different right? Just guessing I buy new stock bearings ??

i dono dude i never did gears and dont know what to tell you about the bearings

but long ago i did 4.10 gears on my old 97 gt and the price was 450 labor parts included soo it seems like a fair price for labor on yours

Maybe someone else can chime in. Btw, that price sounds reasonable for the install, at least for the prices I have heard people pay for them...

You need at a minimum a new pinion bearing, you could reuse the old one but it is better of not. I can do a set in 4 hrs. $300 is not not too bad though as shop prices are up there these days for labor!

That's a fair price. I charge $275 labor plus all parts and fluids. I won't do a set without at least changing the inner pinion bearing, crush collar, pinion seal and pinion nut. Most of them I also change the outer pinion bearing, axle seals, bearing races and the carrier bearings.
*Edit* If it is going to take him 6 to 8 hours to change the gears than he is not very good at doing them. Anyone that knows ring and pinion install on an 8.8 should be able to do it in 4 hours tops, that is replacing all the bearings as well.

I also find it wierd that you guys don't replace everything. It's already apart. Take the time to change all the bearings, seals, and races. Rather have it done completely than half assed.
