Headers and Exhaust Questions

Hey guys,

I'm looking to change my headers and exhaust on my 87. Its an automatic but I eventually want to change it to a 5 speed. Right now I have cat back flowmasters with an h pipe. I heard alot of good things about bbk. Just wanted to no what you guys think I should do. I was thinking bbk long tube with an off road x pipe. I heard that the bbk long tubes may not fit with the AOD but I was wondering if it's possible. Also if anyone has any better ideas I'm definitely willing to listen. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of bbk....but what ever you pick, make sure that its big enough to support future mods. If you do have the money to drop, buy everything in Stainless Steel

What are the planned mods? If you are going to be NA you may want to get long tubes, the extra scavenging is nice and some added lowend as well. Due to my car being low I run shorty headers but I'm SC'ed. There are alot of people in the 9's with shorty headers contrary to what most people think. Figure out what your future mods are going to be 1st.

Most LT headers won't fit with an auto....make sure you check before you order a set. I know MAC makes them to fit, but I don't think BBK will fit.

Ive got Flowtech long tubes and a Flowtech offroad X pipe on my car with a MAC catback.

The Flowtech headers were fairly cheap and theyre ceramic coated.

I think they can fit an auto but Im not sure. Summit sells them.

I personally dont like the BBK's. I have MAC ceramic 1-3/4"-3" longtubes on my AODE car and they are pretty good. Just make sure you get a newer set, as they had some jig issues in earlier ones that effected fitment some. Also Bassani's are great, but pretty pricey..

They also had problems for a few years where they outsourced their coatings and the product SUCKED. I had a set that rusted off in 3 years and the car is garage kept and never saw rain/snow. :thumbsdown:

You have to figure potential future mods and how much you're wiling to spend. If you cheap out and buy the Summit or Flowtech crap you will regret it 100%.
