hand tight rear end?

The ring gear bolts need to be blue loctited anf torqued, the main caps need torqued and the pinion nut will need tightened to get the correct wear pattern and depth (which may require the use of a breaker bar and pipe). You will need the bearing and shim from the pinion that is currently installed.
Well, I'm a big fan of hands on learning so If you are really mechanically savvy grab a book on how to set them up, get a pinion depth guage and and a ring and pinion setting tool with dial indicator, a shim kit and a couple beers! LOL
It's cost you the same as having someone else do it then you will have the tools. If you aren't comfortable with it just bring it somewhere that "specializes" in ring and pinion installs.

Hey you never know until you try right? That's how I learned almost all I know! I watched, studied, read and kept at it until I knew how to do something. I never went to school to be an auto mechanic, build race engines, manual transmissions, chassis fabrication or anything else but I can do it all and I think I have proved myself with my own car and with my own shop that I had. Sometimes you just need to take some initiative. Honestly, what's the worst that can happen if he installs the gears himself? 
There are things you try and do yourself and thers things better left to people that know what there doing. I don't like to pay for things twice and doing it right the fist time is the way I always looked at things. If it were for my personal car or a customers.. What could happen is a locked up rear, or laying up a car in a drive way that now needs to be towed to a shop to fix the mistake.or better yet a noise worse then a drone from flowmasters. The way to learn is to have some that knows how to do it teach you.3 things someone shouldn't fuck with if they are unshore is an engine, a tranny, and a rear. Can he do it... Ya I think so, but there is a lot of stuff I can do to but I just don't.
