OK, I just signed up for the event and ordered tickets. Me and my GF will be attending. Even though I normally go thru Painted Post to get to the Glen, I will head up and meet everyone in Rochester.
We will be meeting at Target on Hylan Dr at 8am Saturday morning on the 29th, we will leave NO LATER then 8:45 so this will give us time to get to the track and get parked and ready for the days event
At 2:15pm on Saturday, he will be escorting some lucky people down to the transporter and you will be helping out as grid marshals for the race with one or some of the teams there, who wants to be a grid marshal?????
Tom, we get you a skimpy shorts and a tight shirt, then you get to wave the flags for the cars as they go and come to make sure they are in the right boxes
The position of grid marshal is in charge of the grid area during their session and will have total control. Most events will have two grid marshals assigned in each run group and they will have the following responsibilities:
Vehicles
Ensure all cars are staged and ready prior to first car on track.
Watch/look for technical issues such as:
Fluid leaks.
Loose lugs/wheels.
Flat tires or corded tires.
Loose articles in cars.
Smoke or steam.
Inspection mark on car.
Doors/hoods/trunks not fully secured.
Occupants.
All are wearing:
Seatbelts/Harnesses.
Helmet.
Wrist bands.
Passengers do not have cameras.
While track is hot.
One car on start line.
One car staged and ready.
Ensure drivers are at their cars “ready”.
Vehicle movement speeds are limited to “walking speed” at all times.
Two-driver cars
Plan ahead
Ensure drivers have a plan on changing drivers prior to the start. (suggest that the second driver should choose a car in the middle of the grid to go after each time)
Having a specific staging area for two-driver cars.
No driving multiple cars while driving in a two-driver car.
Ensure numbers on car are correct for the driver behind the wheel.
Non-drivers
Ensure all in grid have wrist bands.
Keep non-essential people to a minimum while track is hot.
NO pets or children in grid area.
This can change based on the rules of the Glen and Grand Am series, but this is some of the things you might be doing
