Fixed that for you
There is too much B.S. out there regarding guys with ~500rwhp. There has only been ONE motor that has thrown a rod and that was because he took it to the track and beat on it.
small? Not only do I own a car with 493rwhp I happen to be good friends with numerous members that run their 500rwhp mustangs at the track continuously with no problems what so ever.
The fact is ANY car can have motor problems, whether it be blown, juiced, or just flat out built. For some reason people seem to think a blown car with 500rwhp is going to blow their motor up. Its not happening as much as those people think. Don't tell someone they shouldn't run 500rwhp when numerous people are already doing it and not having a single problem with it.
I'm glad you've had success. I never said one shouldn't run those levels, however, there are many guys who have lost the motor in these cars at the 450-500 area. my comment was if you get to those levels of power one must be prepared for a rod to go. when they look like this:
is it really a surprise that they let go?? on a more S197 focused board there are at least six or eight that I can recall who've lost a rod in the power area we are discussing. In fact there are two that come to mind that had the F/I for less then one week when the motors let go.
I was editing my post again to say it wasnt broken lol
What was the tq # on the car with the broken rod?
If you want me to start posting pictures of 500+rwhp cars that havent had issues with a stock bottom then we might be here a while.
Mod motors arent that great NA, a lil boost and they shine though. Def get boost anythin else and youl spend at least twice the money! Now I would say get a centri blower, being on long island as I am your prolly not gonna see that track that much and how usefull will 450 lbtq be at 2500rpm on the street? A centri will give you more usable power.
450 hp is a tough number from 281 cu in. To make that kind of power natural would result in an undriveable peaky race motor. We have customers that are running 450-500 @ the wheel with Superchargers for years on stock internals. The secret is in the tune.
I hate when people go around saying it in the tune. It is true that a bad tune will blow a motor but too much power is too much power, PERIOD! The rods being the weak part, when you get to their limits they bend or break, it doesnt matter how perfect your tune is, if a rod is over stressed your done.

oh dude, I know there are a lot of cars running 450-500 on the stock block w/o issue. Again my comment is that with these rods - in that power area - you have to be prepared IMO both mentally and financially for a rod to go and window the block.
