Hey ,
So the car runs great,Is the choke working/pulling off when warm, etc.? I'm glad to hear it.Hopefully it holds up for you for a long time,These new gas mixes they are selling are not getting along with carburetors too well (don't get me started). Anyhow, one last thing no matter what you or I did with the other carb you had,it would never have run as good. Hopefully the carb I'm doing right now for someone else comes out as good.
Ok fuel gauge, What I was saying is that you lay under the gas tank, you will see where the fuel line and a wire attach to your fuel sender. You unplug the wire from the sender and stick the nail into the hole in the wire and then ground that against clean metal. Assuming you do that correctly that will send a signal to your gas gauge telling it is filled to infinity and the gauge will peg on the high side as high as it can go.If it does that you have a sender issue,If it doesn't let me know. The fact that you confirmed that your other gauges are working leads me to believe your sender is having issues. Did you replace it or was that already done when you got the car? I'm not loving these repo senders these days,I've been having issues with them in a couple of my cars as well lately.
