For Mustang sales topped out at 3,881 in the month of January. While that doesn’t sound like much, it’s actually the best start to a year the Mustang has had since 2010. January is typically the Mustang’s slowest month for sales, and the 3,881 units that were purchased from dealer’s lots is actually an increase of 7.6 percent compared to last year. The number is especially impressive given the harsh winter weather experienced in much of the country. After all, a rear-wheel-drive sports car isn’t on the minds of most people when they’re being assaulted by the polar vortex.
“Given the difficult weather in our largest sales regions, we are fortunate to have held in at retail as well as we did,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service regarding the company’s dismal numbers. Ford’s overall retail sales were down five percent compared to January of 2013.
