Well today I finally finished installing the Roush brake kit on my car.
It consists of 14" rotors up front with 4 piston calipers. The rear is a 13" rotor that reuses the stock caliper, they are just moved up to accommodate the larger rotor.
The process was nowhere near as "bolt on" as I thought it was going to be.
The front are not floating calipers, obviously, which meant that I needed to shim the mounting bracket a bit at a time until I got it centered which ended up with me having to install and remove everything 4 times before I got it right (My car needed 2.25mm in case someone is installing one of these kits and needs a starting point). The other problem was that the kit came without banjo bolts for the front calipers. After some research, some trial and error and a few trips to the parts store, I ended up using banjo bolts for a late model Camry for $4 (Roush wanted $30 +shipping for theirs!! hell no. LOL!).
On to the rears. Well, where do I start . The kit is meant to be used with Cobra caliper brackets, which mine did not have (GT) doh :smash: so they needed to be spaced out (again a lot of trial and error here). Then there were the brake pads. Cobra brake pads, which this kit uses but are not included, are thinner than GT pads to compensate for the thicker rotors. My local auto parts did not have them and my local Ford dealer's parts department does not open on weekends :smash: God damn it!!. So I took a belt sander to a set of GT pads until I got them right. All in all, a simple (or so I thought) job
turned into a bit of a nightmare, but I am happy with the results.
So you see Bossman429 you were not the only one with brake job problems LOL
Here are a few, kind of dark, pics of they look
