I started a thread on NSM about 2 weeks ago regarding a project that i have been working on. I figured id share with you guys as well, its a slow project but i plan to have it done by mid-June hopefully. I bought a 86 bmw 528e from my friend Donkey (Ross) and just this weekend i traveled to Atlanta, Georgia and picked up a totalled 02' z28 for $575 off Copart. The motor and trans and both axles are salvageable, along with the ECU and chassis harness, which is what i wanted. My original plan was to procharge and cam the ls1 and leave it at that. But after finding out that there would be very little clearance room left in the engine bay for the procharger to fit, i changed my plans. Now, when i save up some money, im sending my block out to Texas speed, putting a MS4 cam in it, Double roller timing chains, pistons and Rods as well as head and main studs, then installing a BDS 8-71 cog driven blower set up on the ls1. BDS said at 6psi on the 8-71 on 93 octane, ill be just around 700rwhp which was my goal to begin with. ARH will be making custom longtubes for the car and it will be catless and i will have Borla Stinger mufflers. For wheels, i changed from 18" wheels to 17" CCW sp16a wheels. 17x8 and 17x13 with 255/45/17 and 345/45/17 toyos. I am tubbing the rear end this week as well as shortening the rear axle and moving the Bilstein coilovers farther inward. Not sure if ill have to do a fuel cell yet but im betting on it. My father and i are making a custom dash for the car sometime this winter, and we are basing it off of a Ford GT interior.
Here are the pics so far.
when i picked it up:
Engine and tranny removed:
Cage all welded up and interior stripped:
That is all i have so far. more pics to come, but its busy right now due to this semesters finals in college. So glad i got a new job though, now i can finish this on time! (hopefully)
