distributor question??

hello i have a stock distributor out of a 91 5.0 I was wondering if this distributor work with the same motor but its been converted to carburator. I having problems with the distributor on it right now i have the old style one in it

I'm not sure, they should be the same except if you're using a mechanical fuel pump the distributor from the 91 wont have the drive gear for it.

the distributor doesnt drive a mechanical fuel pump.

Im pretty sure you can make it work I remember seeing a few write ups on how to do it. I would just buy a cheap 1 wire hei dist and be done with it if you want it to be simple and painless

It has to be re-wired. I'm not exactly sure how, I'm sure it can be found easily enough.

Besides that it will work fine.

Yes yes, I was thinking of the oil pump shaft....DUH!! Anyway I don't think it would work, how would you get the tfi module to work and then there's the problem of timing advance.

you should use an 85 dist. with a steel gear. theyre cheap and easy to find and you will have no problems. you do not use the vac. adv. What problems are you having with the one you have now and where did you get it from?

i got the old style one from the 60s the point one so they suck car shuts off when im on the red light idling on drive. i have the distributor from the efi that came with it when i bought the motor i was hoping it could work too save a little bit of money guess ill have to buy a one wire one lol anyone want a 5.0 distributor??

The prblem you might be having is that you have been running a dizzy with a cast gear. A H.O. roller cam engine requires a steel gear. You may have worn down the teeth on the dizzy gear.

yeah, cant use a 60's dist. or you shouldnt use one i should say. could be the gear and hopefully you didnt hurt the cam gear also are you using a ballast? if you are then they do go bad and cause that problem. either way spend the 40$ and do it right or it will end up costing you alot more later.
