Cold Air Intake?????

You can choose whatever octane you want, they'll give you three tunes; street, performance, and race, you can choose octane levels for all three. I have street with 87, I never use it but, it's supposed to give you low end power. I have performance and race on 93. I use performance daily, you get the power in the mid rpm range.
Well livign in brooklyn, and driving around the city alot, sounds like street is were i'll be alot of lol, but I pretty much think I'll test out like this:
Street 87
Performance 89
Race 91
Kinda funny since I went to my car to pull the computer codes an passed a gas station just to remember the octanes, I knew there where 4 used in the US, but NYC only uses 3 and its 93 thats not here.

Unfortunately I don't have a Sunoco anywhere near me, We have only 4 gas stations in the area a BP, a Getty and a HESS which is what I use, but there's also a no name truck stop with watered down gas.
Another thing I was wondering, I have a throttlebody spacer from Poweraid, now with the cold air intake can I leave it on or does it have to go. I know the spacer probably does nothing but don't wana take it off if i don't have too, plus gives the engine bay a tiny touch of red.

It "whistles" only in the mid range nothing too noticable either unless your looking for it then your not going to notice it. Bought it on Autoanything thinking it might help with the gas, well it kind of did or could be the K&N but did see an improvement in city , up to 16/17 from 14. I'll see how it fits if there are problems, no biggie I still got the original screws in the trunk.
Ok, need to get my head checked out think I hit it way too many times LOL, so I walked by my Hess station tonite and figured to look at the pump and wanted to kick myself, I saw 87, 89, and ... 93, its 91 thats not around here man I feel like ahh just isn't my dad. But even though I put 91 for Race, I'm probably going to try the 87 Street and the 89 performance. Think for the winter I'll run the 87 and once spring hits, I'll put the 89 in.
I have a 2001 Mustang Convertible with the 3.8L V-6 (mint condition 53K original miles, no winter driving in Cleveland, Oh.)
I purchased and installed the K & L cold air return system that was suggested to that vehicle from American Muscle on line. Also, I replaced the single exhaust system with a full dual "Flowmaster 40" exhaust system.
The car looks and sounds awesome. When you standing behind the rear bumper you swear the car sounds like a GT. I love and enjoy both of these major investment modifications.
To be totally hones, I have NOT felt any noticeable improvements in performance. (I have automatic transmission.) I did NOT do any re-tuning, I was afraid to mess with the onboard computer. I am running on 87 Octane fuel.
Now my question, Would it be worth the extra cost to re-tune the engine with the modifications I have described above ?? Right now the car runs about the same as it did before the modifications. I have seen tuners costing hundreds of dollars and I would have to find an expert mechanic who knows what he is doing. (extra cost)
Will I really notice any significant increase in performance ?? (Locally I was told not enough to justify the extra cost)
Any opinion would be greatly appreciated

Get the tuner! Worth every penny. I ran without a tune for a couple of days after getting my CAI and dual exhaust done, didn't really notice too much of a gain. The tune is definitely going to make the difference especially on an automatic. Get an SCT tuner from AM they will give you free tunes and brief instructions on how to do it yourself. It's really easy to load the tunes. Don't worry about messing up your computer, the tuner will download your stock ECU file before adding a tune, I think you could even back your stock file up on your computer afterwards just to be safe.
So got the CAI in Friday afternoon, looks sweet, running it for now on the 87 Street tune since I had less the quarter tank of 87 just filled up on 89 tonight figure after i go through a quarter I'll put in the 89 Performance tune, hopfully see the real difference then. I'm thinking of haven AM switch my street to 89. I will say, the car shifts alot better then before, suprising for an automatic. One thing I will say there is no warning anywhere that when your tuning, the message center will go nuts saying ODO failure and Charge System Failure, luckly I didn't panic and pull the tuner out right away lol.
I was really surprised at the difference the tune made with my V6 automatic. Even the gas mileage improved, which I was told would happen but I was still surprised!!! Let me know if you decide to change the tune to the 89. When I wanted to change the Octane from 91 to 89, AM told me that it was not necessary and they would not do it, so I just left the tune at the 91, and continued to use 91 in my car, did not feel like arguing, even though they are the ones that said that the tune and the Octane level should match. They even gave me a little bit of a hard time when I wanted to change my tune when I added the CAI.
