There’s something very special about the 1965 Shelby GT350. It’s the car that helped cement Shelby’s relationship with Ford and kicked off a series of some of the most legendary muscle cars built. They are also exceedingly rare, with just over 500 street versions being produced, so it’s no wonder that their value has skyrocketed over the last decade.
So it was with great interest that we watched this 1965 GT350 cross the block at Barrett-Jackson this weekend. It’s a pristine example with matching numbers and original bodywork so we expected a significantly high bidding, but we were still surprised to see the final price tag of $374,000. That’s the highest we’ve seen with the exception of the unrestored barn find that was sold at Barrett-Jackson a couple years back. Is this perhaps an indication of things to come? Perhaps. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a ’65 GT350 exceed the half million mark in the next few years if the right car and buyer come along.
