This Sunday June 7th @ Nassau Collesium, the NY Metro Porsche Club will be hosting an Autocross event, if you have not yet tried this you MUST. They take a huge parking lot and set up a half mile track with orange cones, theres a lot of slolam and hairpin turns, braking, turning and trying to find the right angles without hitting the cones. It's a great way to learn the limits of your car in a safe way.
People show up around 7ish to prep their cars, registration starts at 8. Its about $40 bux but you need a helmet, one can be rented for 5 or 10 bux. The event lasts till about 2pm. You spend some time on the track watching to make sure knocked over cones are recorded and replaced, this allows you to watch others and learn from their mistakes or see what they are goin right. YOu get some time to relax and have lunch and you get some sea time, generally youll run any where between 6 - 10 heats throught the day.
Everyone thinks they are a great driver until they get on the coarse, its truly a humbling experience but it also teaches you to be a better all around driver. Youll see a lot of kool cars and meet some nice people.
