i was thinking of using the vortech air intake elbow it bout 3.5'' and going to autozone getting a 3.5'' pipe use that as my intake and then mount the mass in the middle of the pipe only one problem the mass air pipe is 4'' if i use 4'' to 3.5'' reducer and a 4'' to 3'' reducer will it mess up the air flow?

vortech intake part is 3.5''
the mass air pipe is 4''
and the intercooler pipe is 3''

you could try something like this:
the image above is using a cast aluminum elbow, those are a little more expensive than mandrel bent tubing, but they give you a little more room to work with because they have a tighter radius, though if you think you have enough room for a mandrel bent piece even better (less $$$) Anyways, here is a link to the cast elbow in case you'd like to go that route Cast Aluminum Elbows, Cast Aluminum 90* Elbows, JOD-ALCASTBO | RacePartSolutions.com

that means i wouldnt be able to make up for the lost boost ....i was planing on using a power pipe to gain back the 2 to 3 psi i lose buy going intercooled

would i gain any boost using that cast aluminum elbow

wouldnt this just suck up hot air from the engine bay

you are not going to lose 2-3psi if you are only running 9lbs it would have to be a VERY inefficient system for you to lose that much, that would be over 30%!! . I can see you losing 2-3 psi if you were running 22-25+psi, not 9psi (unless you forget to remove the bags you put at the end of the intercooler, LOL) The pipe itself is not the reason you "gain" boost, it is the fact that you are drawing cooler/denser air from the inner fender area which helps you build more boost, but at the level you are at, I do not see it as being some crazy difference. Besides you can gain back lost power (if you do lose any) by adding a little more timing 'cause now you have an intercooler. You should be fine

trust me dude i read alot of peoples cx racing fmic threads and everyone lost anywhere from 2 to 5lbs of boost

ok guys i looked over some guys intercooler build and i like what he did so im going to do the same but i have to cut a hole near the hole going down to the fender ..this way i can use a power pipe and wont have to worry bout fitment

do you think you have enough room for the "power pipe" to clear the tube that will be coming up thru the hole. BTW I personally think you are doing very well for someone who has not done this before (not that my opinion matters much :-D )

thanks man those are not my pics by the way its someone else i just posted his build pics to show u guys what im going to do


the power pipe should fit because his fit with room to spare :awesomework:

looks good so far. One comment, be careful with the spectre connectors. Some of them are NOT meant to have pressurized air go thru them. They'll blow up like a balloon under boost. If you look at the connector on the side and you can see the cords in it, then they are OK. If not they are the PVC ones, they won't hold up.

I was going to tell you if you where local to me, you could come look thru all the extra connectors I have. I bet you I have a couple hundred dollars worth of spare/extra/thought I needed connectors.

ill deff check out the spectre connecters see if its the right ones


you think its fine to go from 3'' to a 4'' pipe right by the mass air will there be any turbulence ?
