65 coil spring covers

Among the parts I received with the 65 I'm restoring are two coil spring covers. Back in 1971, when I was installing grease fittings in my 66 GT, I'm positive there weren't any spring covers. They must have been removed by the previous owner or a mechanic sometime. Mine need cleaning up and painting. Do these serve a real pupose? Are they structural or do they offer protection. I'll put them on, but my old car seemed fine without them.

If I remember correctly, there is a rubber stop that extends down from the bottom of it. That would be there to prevent the front from colapsing too much when going over a very hard bump.

It does have a rubber bumper. I was curious because my old 66 didn't have these and I never had any trouble. I will be installing them.

Since you most likely has fresh shocks, avoided large pot holes and didn't goes fast over speed bumps, they didn't get any use.
