Well mine is a budget build and I'm going 408 because there are a lot of stroker kits out for it and gaining 102 more cubes than my motor now is more than enough, i'll have the spray if I really need it.

I'm using the trickflow r intake because it is a good proved one. AFR 205 heads will most likely be on the car too.

10.5 compression will be my max because this will be a pump gas car that is a daily driver, also which is why if will be a hydrolic roller car.

D1coupe....just going by what a few engine builders told me when i asked about a 427...the 408 stroke is normally a 4.000 and the 427 a 4.170 or something like that and i guess if you dont have the correct rod bolts or rods on the upstroke they can go to far into the cam tunnel and you have clearance issues. i asked around before i went 408 i wanted to do 427 too but they said for less headaches go 408.


and 302n20 is it the R box intake?

yeah thats the style i used first too...still hauled ass for a street car lol. i wish i would have had the money for some afrs though...i got a good deal on those vc jrs so i jumped on them

as for the 408/427 clearance problem. since he is going with a possible n2o setup, couldnt he just get a longer duration: shorter lift cam to avoid clearance issues from the 427?

irishpwr. that would make sence wouldnt it? lol. ive never experienced the clearance issue first hand so i cant answer that im just going from what ive been told by a few local engine builders...i think we are gunna have to wait for d1coupe and prostang racing to chime in

Well I don't build engines.... and I know people that run 427's 414's and 408 and never once herd of any type of problem other then "what type of block" are you running and "who's internals"; as in: "how far can you push the power". Anything built right isn't going to give any type of clearance issues! I was always lead to believe that all you had to do is notch the block and so forth and its done!Just like making a 347 stock block engine. Granted most people that I've talked to say for all the money spent doing it twice they cold have had a killer setup. Alot of us have been down the road of doing things twice and if I had to do any type of engine in a 351 based setup then I would start with a good block and max that bitch out and call it a day. Whats the big deal about 19 more inches! I'm just saying its all food for thought....

Hence why there is a 427 going in my car with some chevy internals.. :D

Swap headers, swap oil pan and a flywheel/flexplate to match your trans.
A 302 and a 351 are almost identical except a 351W has a taller deck (measured from the center of the crank to the top of the cylinder bore). Obviously this makes the 351W wider at the top so you need a 351W intake and the distributor for a 351W is longer. Everything else like timing chain, heads, rockers, cam and water pump will swap (not pushrods or roller lifters). Also the balancer and flexplate/flywheel on a stock 302 is 50oz imbalanced where on a 351W is 28oz so you cant use them on a W. Thats it.
