Has anyone done a gear upgrade on their s197 here? ive been wanted to upgrade to a 4/10 ratio and called my local ford shop yesturday. They said tht they need to put the car on the computer and go into base memory to make sure my car will handle 4/10's. They want to charge $100 just for that. I would assume that since they make 4/10 direct from ford racing they will work, is that right? Also, ive been told that if the gears do work i will have to have the computer recalibrated, andother $100 bucks. Can any of you guys who have had this done offer me some incite. I want to get these installed soon but dont want to make a mistake. Thanks in advance

If you car is a 07gt, 410s will be fine with the 5 speed..They are raping you on the first 100 for computer check, thats bullshit, The computer will need to be re cal for the speedo, I recomend telling them , dont worry about the recal, and just buy a SCT or Diablo tuner, This way you can do it yourself and you;ll need the SCT for later anyways with the mods you;ll be adding later

As for a diablo tuner or something, i dont have the $500 to shell out at once. Im in the process of saving for a house so any money i can save has to be spent wisely. I figured doing the gears as the first perf. mod would give me the biggest gains. As for CAI, i really dont want to get one yet, i have plans for a SC that hopefully i will be able to wrap into my mortgage

I just put 4.10s in my 5speed 07gt, I love them but now traction is a problem. If you only have limited $ right now I would go with a CAI/tune from somewhere like brenspeed/bamachips. The intake and tune wake up our cars and it will feel like a whole new beast. Like I said, now with my 4.10s I have to put the $ I was saving for FI into suspension mods.
how bad is your traction? to the point where you cant launch at all? im just afraid that if i go with 373 that ill want to change again after a while. Id rather do the 4.10 now and put 305's on the rear wheels and do some suspension work next. my money isnt limited but it takes a couple of weeks to get what i need. My wife would kill me if i went out and spent 1g at a time...id love to but id have to sleep with my dog. lol she doesnt complain when i "save"
I put 3.73s in my 08 but, I was more impressed with the CAI and Tune from Brenspeed than I was with the gear change. Maybe 4.10s would be more impressive? Gears installed cost about the same as CAI and tune. The CAI and tune I installed myself. Did you ask how much the Dealership wants to do the gear install? My ford dealer told me they could not calibrate the speedo for 3.73s. The tallest gear they could calibrate for was 3.55s. So the speedo was off until I got the tuner.

4.10's are more agressive but they are like everything else. It is a supporting mod, don't put 4.10's in and expect to shave all this time off, If you have some cams, intake, and bolt ons you will be like wow. If you even have just a bolted car then they help. But just and intake and gears......not so much.
wow! Thanks to all of you guys. It is nice to have some support out there who give great arguments in both directions. Im not looking to shave seconds off my 1/4 because my nearest drag strip is like hour and 45 mins away and i dont go there often, but...i would def. like to feel a little bit more torque when cruzin. with the 3:31 it always requires a down shift. I think for now i will do the 4:10. then come winter time I will def do a CAI only because everyone here says that it really wakes our car up. Soon as i have anything done, i will let you know.
