IF I buy the kit, do I need to have them put the cam bearings in? Also, would that include hot tanking and magnafluxing the block?

I would recommend that the machine shop install the cam bearings unless you have done them before and have the tool to do them. Yes that should include a hot tank and mag. Talk to your machinist, you may not need a line hone as long as everything measures out fine.

Cool, thanks for the help. I'll have them do them, or maybe I can do them with my tech teacher since we have a cam bearing tool in the shop at school if it's a lot for the machineest to do. would you mind taking a look at the rebuild kit I was looking at if I get the link?

I just can't see dropping $500 on a set of pistons alone when it's just going to be a rebuild with a little more work done....I'm not building a race car, just a driver that's a little fun!

That's what I another thing I was going to ask....would it be worth it to have the crank cleaned up that came out of that motor, or the older one I have becuase on teh older one I have it's in much better shape.

i guess both,,i was also thinking of the sort,and i cant come up with anything,i feel if for me alteast if im gonna rebuild my 302,,might as well make the block fresh,throw all new internnals,,,,,via the stroker,,,theres no reason to run the risk of rebuilding used stuff and it fail a couple months later,they look like nice kits for the money,buy a nice set of heads and have a nice set up for 2500 bucks,then whatever it costs to get the block freshend up

Well a stroker kit is way out of the question for now...maybe some GT40 heads until I can afford some AFRs or Twisted Wedges.

i know what u mean,i have to save for weeks to get parts,,302-306 is not that much difference,,,thats why i said stroker kit casue to get a set of 500 pistons,the bearing and any machine work done,,u almost might as well hold off for a few more weeks and spend the little extra

So I want to have my crank looked at to see if it could be machined and I could run bigger bearings. Also, I want to get a quote to have it bored over to a 306...if it is only $100-$150 extra, I'll just go for it. Here are the parts I'm looking at...

Gear drive:

Any opinions on them? Anyone ever dealt with Sealed power pistons, bearings, or gaskets?

Sealed power is a good brand. It's a division of federal mogul. You can't go wrong with it.
Stay away from the "dog bone" gears drives. They are loud, sloppy and have a tendency to "kick back" and lose timing. Stick with a nice Ford Motorsports cast iron timing set.

I hate the gear drives, I always just get this timing chain..

Alright, thanks for the help thus far guys....do you think the oil pump in that rebuild kit would be fine? How about teh fact that I plan on using hyperutetic pistons? Can I use my stock rods with them?

With a stock 5qt pan I would recommend a stock volume/ stock pressure pump. A high volume pump can suck a stock pan dry at high RPMs.
Yes you can use hyper pistons with stock rods.
