3.73 Gears what to expect?

4.10s are fun but i get beat on the highway a lot. i smoked a camaro till 130 lol doesnt pull in 5th gear

My friends Mach 1 pulls in 5th with 4.10's pretty good.

I think there is alot of confusion in this post though. Because the original poster has a '96 Cobra that is NA, but some people just assume 03/04 I think.

I know going from 3.55 gears to 4.10 in that Mach 1 was night/day. Same with Scott's 99 Cobra when he went from 3.27 to 4.30 I'm sure he will chime in. NA 4.6 DOHC needs gear for sure.

its def night and day, but you will lose on top to a lot of cars you'd normally spank. once 5th gear got over 5200rpms i pulled back infront of the maro but with 3.55 or 3.73 he wouldnt have caught me

Thats why I liked my 3.27 in my 93 GT NIICE topend with the SC and stock gears hahaha.

My friends GT500 has 3.73 and they seem almost perfect for the car. Depends on what SC you have really. Positive displacement or a centrifugal. Alot of guys run 4.10's in the GT500's though.

I would say 4.10 or you will regret it. If you decide on the 3.73's you will like them and be happy for a little while, but you will more than likely wish you went steeper. Not enough difference between the 3.90 and 4.10 to get the 3.90. If you never plan on using a power adder go with the 4.30's, or 4.56 if you have really big balls. 3.27 to 4.30 was a HUGE improvement for my car. I don't regret it....even now being supercharged.

The n/a cobras have a lot of tach in em... If you're staying N/A I say forget everything but 4.30's...

I have 4.30 in my Mach 1... and I would've been upset if i did any other gear. If you plan on FI - no higher then 3.90s...

If anyone doubts me and you've never been in the DOHC cars with 4.30... Ask Monx - he's been in the Mach 1...

I agree but have to add the mach's have much better midrange. N/A cobras scream for a steep gear. At least a 4.10, preferably 4.30, or 4.56 if no power adder is in the future.

yeah with all that extra tach that you have on the car over the 2v... gotta go with 4.30's... You will not be sorry.. and for anyone that says you lose gas milage... driving the mach 1 from florida to ny I got around 25mpg cruising..

Was that before or after you put cams in?

I have had 2 geared Mustangs... and not really 1 of them have really messed with my gas milage... 3.90 and 4.30 sets.

When i drove a lot I would get 20-22 mixed highway/city driving.

May also want to check your driving habits

I have to admit, I was quite impressed with the 4.30s in the Mach 1, who cares if you lose top end at 130mph? when will anyone go faster than that really...

4.10's killed the mileage more than the cams did. im going to swap to 3.73 when i can. 4.10 makes 1st and 2nd gear useless and it sucks on the highway
