2-3 Shifts Sticking

I'm very new to driving stick, so this could very well be driver error but, I've read that a lot of people have a hard time getting into third when driving hard. Anybody here experience this? Will a short throw shifter remedy this? :confused:

Ah, maybe sticking isn't the right word, more like it blocks out 3rd under WOT. I know what you mean though when it's cold, the shifts need a little bit more effort.

btw nice 06! My old mustang was an 06 V6, auto though.

The MT82 transmission is a flawed unit. It is NOTORIOUS for missed shifts and weird operation. Try shifting at different RPMs and partial throttle and see if 3rd is easier to reach.

There are alternatives with short throw shifters, but it will not fix the main issue. You can go MGW and Barton for shifters. Or you can get a whole Magnum XL transmission and replace the MT82 altogether.

Ultimately, I would continue to learn to drive your car. You will find where she wants to be and will get better shifting it each time.

Are there any drawbacks to short throw shifters? I've seen the Barton and the Steeda, kind of leaning towards the Steeda Tri Ax. Don't remember if the Barton has it but the steeda comes with a metal bracket/bushing thing that replaces the stock rubber one, supposedly this fixes the weird 2-3 shift.

I can get it if I shift a little bit slower, For now, I'll just keep practicing!

I ordered the Barton shifter with the 2 post bracket. Just came in today! :D The bracket seems really heavy duty and only allows for a forward and backward motion, no side to side. This is supposed to eliminate missed shifts or "deflection".

I made a quick video on my phone that shows how the piece moves.

I got my Barton shifter installed. Had KS Auto do it, so no video... My first reaction... wow you can shift quickly with this... my next reaction, is wow, this requires a bit more force than I thought. 1st gear especially. Is that normal?

Does a heavier shift knob help? I still have the stock.

I went driving again and realized I was making a ton of extra work for myself by just trying to force into gear. The gates are a lot narrower and don't have as much play. Now that I've got a feel for where the gates are it's so much easier!

Also, I'm starting to feel it's easier to tell you're in reverse with this because the path is more pronounced, if that makes any sense.
