331 build??

well I think my stock bottom end is about you say FU sooo I am probably going to put the car away for the winter and start building a new lower end. I have 2 options... stroke and poke my buddies block from his car that he is not using any longer... or I can buy a block from summit racing thats already for a stroker kit (so they claim)

Does anyone have any experience with these blocks? its pn- sum-150110

also along with that I would obviously need the stroker kit... what do I need to look for in a stroker kit? balanced? etc.

I haven't heard anything bad about Summit's 347 blocks, one of the mustang magazines did a build up with that block a few months ago.
Not sure if you are hard set on stroker, but LRS has 302 short blocks for about 1500 I think. That is what I will probably do sometime, since mine needs a rebuild.

yeah but for nearly the same price I can go to a 331... I am going to put it together over the winter and add on my current heads cam and intake and see what I come up with. no replacement for displacement is what i am told

I know the owner from another forum, he personal builds all the motors no $10hr help. I believe he sells prep'd blocks too?

Yea he is good, I have never heard anything bad about him on the Corral everyone seems very pleased. That is who I usually suggest. I had a Fox Lake built 331 and it was a very nice engine as well. Also had ported TFS heads by Fox Lake and they were done nicely!

One thing I will say is that if you are planning on forced induction don't waste $$ on building a stock block based stroker with a SC. You can make block splitting power on the stock shortblock, you are better off getting a properly built BOSS or Dart block based stroker.

if u dont have the know-how then ask these questions to your builder....because you can get wrong info on these sites even if people are good natured and trying to help

fordstrokers is good, fox lake is good too....there are dozens of good "mail order" places.......never had any experience with a summit engine

There are probably a lot of good engine builders down that way, IF I had a real good local engine builder that would be my 1st choice. Nothing like getting to see your engine in multiple stages and knowing what is being done.

yeah id like to put it together myself. My step father rebuilt his crown vic a few years back and its still rolling along real well. I just dont know enough of the ins and out of it on my own just yet is why I would like to do it. I may give the boys over at Vanstrom Performance a call and see what they can do if I gather up all the parts. I stopped there when I had an issue before and got to check out the shop and got my car looked at.

I am unsure on the power adder just yet. If I ever do boost it I wouldnt want to go nuts since it is my daily driver. How much you figure a 331 with my current hci would lay down?

fordstrokers! was a 5 month wait but worth it. their 331 shortblocks currently on sale run $2400. obviously you could save a little buying the parts and putting it together yourself but for a little extra, you know its done right by someone who specializes only in this engine family.
